Happens very often just build a metal heat shield out of some thin metal will just stop the strong radiant heat and save ur dizzy from melting.
Heya all.
Smelt a nasty smell on Sunday. Opened the bonnet to find this (below)!!!![]()
Has anybody else had this happen?
Obviously its the headers that have heated up and melted the dizzy and surrounding wiring.
Overall the car wasn't very hot. Temp gauge showed just less than half. Could touch hosing and radiator with hands, no bubbling or boiling just mega-hot headers.
Is the car running too lean and heating the headers too much?

Thanks dude.
I knew there'd be a lot of heat there but now that I know its fairly common I'll do as you suggested.
Cheers
from factory i think all 4ag's come with a heatshield for the dizzy, at least all the ones i have had.
i suggest going to a wrecker and trying to find one, it shouldnt be hard to find.
Ben.
yeah i was worried about this a while ago, even started a thread about it. then i was like "meh, i've never seen a melted one, so iwon't bother with a shield"
i guess i better make one now.......
only the jdm ones didnt come with heat shield, i prefer using the adm ones cos the caps can be bought anywhere + they got the stock heat shield which is good if u run aftermarket extractors with out the extractor heatsheilds (unless u get the heat wrap)

Went out and bought some heat wrap today ($47), I'll see how that goes and report back.
