sorry never seen it done, prolly not overly cost effective either with the availability and pricing of SR's being reasonable and conversion parts plentiful as its a fairly common conversion.

as a side note turn caps lock off, it looks like you are yelling.....

HEY VR4 HOWS IT GOING JUST WONDERING IF YOUR CAPS LOCK KEY IS BROKEN OR ARE YOU JUST DUMB AND LIKE TO SHOUT UNNECESSARILY?

FJ20s are pov.. ca18det is easier than sr20det and both will be more valuable than an fj20

thanx lads for pointing out the obvious and hurting your delicate eyes with with the dreaded capital letters,
and if you do some reasearch the fj20 is a better motor than a ca or sr,parts might be harder to come across but thats the only downside, more revs than a sr and are stronger than a ca,
so anyone who has some idea on what is involved let me know what you think
i believe it should be almost the same conversion as the ca?

FJ20's rip. ARE YOU JUST DUMB OR DO YOU LIKE TO USE YOUR UNEDUCATED OPINIONS TOO TRY AND SOUND SOUND COOL??

Technically their only real downsides are weight at 14 KG's heavier than an SR.. And gearbox is fairly fragile. With age most of these box's have seen a fair thrashing. 2nd and 3rd gear syncho's are usually the first to go.

im glad to see some people have a bit of knowlege regarding what fj's can do
and not shitting on my posts and making uneducated statements about motors which they have not reasearched or owned i feel that it would be a faily original conversion and it should be able to run down straights aswell as it turns!!! not that a ca or sr cant but fj's float my boat lol

never read hot4s in my life, and i was just expressing a personal opinion, which nobody has to accept...

that was on the topic of this thread, unlike your useless post.

drift limo fwiw my "uneducated" point of view is this: the sr20 has MANY advancements over fj20, distributor less ignition, way better ecu, lighter block (its alloy).. the list goes on.. plus its a way more common conversion into ae86 so theres information and resources available (hence its more valuable, as in value for money.. bang for buck whatever) on top of that sr20/ca18 are newer than FJ20 (which will probably need a rebuild) the CA will too but its just purely cheap..

so before u "shit on someones post" as u say perhaps consider that its just an opinion and nothing to get all antsy about

They are great over engineered engines, CA's are a peace of crap compared to the full metal fj20.
I think your on your own on this one.

I would argue that it all depends on what sort of power you are chasing as to what engine is more suitable for your application. All three are capable of making more power that you would probably need. On paper the FJ20 is a stronger engine and has the figures to back it up. The reality is though that it is a 30 year old engine design and can be a little course in its running. The CA has a better designed valve gear setup than the SR but loses out on capacity and is also getting older. I think that if you are on a budget the SR is the way to go because there are plenty around, you won't have to rebuild it before you put it in and there is lots of information on how to get the power that you need out of them. Popularity means cheap parts. I would personally love to see a 1UZ-FE with a manual shift auto because the end cost wouldn't be too much different to the SR conversion

    Cheers
    Paul
