well considering the car is covered in road salt cause ny state for some reason uses that shit when it snows 1/4 of an inch, and considering that its 1978, and considering that yotas are known for rust issues (due to road salt) yeah id say its almost mint. plus the rareity of it as well...(for those of us who cant do basic math thats 29 years of brutal unnecessary abuse)... it needs very little work to look new, some quick patches on the quarters and a new paint job, some cosmetics, altho working in a certified body shop for the passed 4 years i know nothing about that, but any way im not here for arguements or critisisms, just help.

so whats the word on a w55 gear box? i read that theres a company that manufactures a bellhousing for the 4AGE to bolt up to the w55 but im not sure if there are any better options for the engine. im only lookin to push about 250 to 300 horses so i dont need any thing extreme.

im also lookin for any info or links to a company that make a DLI for it, or would i just be better off to cut a hole in the firewall to get the existing dizy to fit?

have you considered a, 18RG or 3TGTE or similar???. IMHO, the 4AG is not really suited to such a heavy car as it has inadequate torque. if you want something newer, consider a 3SG. I have done the dissy conversions for these old celicas. see

Just so everybody realises, this guy is obviously in U.S.A. not Australia. Yes the car is a Celica GT, but USA spec. Not a "GT" in the Toyota Japan meaning of the word, otherwise it would have a 18R-GEU (which america never got).

    78turboGT:
You are better to keep your R series engine, and build a 22RE/21R hybred turbo motor. Thats a 2.4 litre EFI motor, lots of torque! The little 20v does not really fit your gearbox. Lots of 22RE motors avaliable from trucks, and some of them are turbo! Bolt in.

yes i agree.. keep your 20R head, and use a 22R bottom end.. gives it s lightly higher compression ratio.. if you want to go NA, big cam and a pair of webbers, or you might want to use EFI.. good power can be made NA..

but if you chose turbo use 22RE long motor.. it will have a shit load of torque!

yeah i guess i did forget to state that im from the US. should have cleared that up at the begining. thanks for all the info from every one! what year pickup is the 22re from out of, the one with the fuel injection cause im def going turbo. iv already got a mega squirt manage ment system lined up for what ever i get so ill be all set as far as that goes. if i were to go the route of the hybrid what would an acceptable tranny for that be? i had thoughts of the r154 from an 86 to 92 supra but im not sure of the if it will fit under the car, strong tho. i do unfortunately already have the 4age if any ones lookin to buy and i dont end up using it. but you can make an offer and if i like it ill proly let it go. its jdm and ive got every thing for it. auto tranny, wire harness, computer, afm, and some other extras, its fron wheel drive.

where can i get an LSD for the solid axle for this thing too? and would i possibly be able to modify the ITB set up to work with the 20r head?

a W55 or W58 gearbox from the next model up celica.. the RA6X series would be more than capable of handling that

search some US performance places.. you guys didn't get the glorious 18RG.. so you had to make do with the 20 and 22R's which ended up hammering along just as good! there would be twin webber manifolds etc available for them..

if your going to breath a bit of boost.. stick with a large single TB..

it's not factory.. the 2 at the end of your diff code means it was sold with an open centre..

drive off the side of the road onto some grass.. half the car on the road.. half the car on the grass.. try and do a static burnout for a few seconds.. if the wheel that is on the road doesn't spin.. but the one on the grass does.. you have an opencenter.. or a rooted LSD.. if the wheel on the road cherps and starts to smoke up great your LSD is in good condition..

if your LSD is opening up to one wheel every now and again.. try changing the diff oil to something like a 140w LSD oil.. even an LSD additive that thickens that also!!
