My main thought for the whole lsd oil, despite it being a locker it would just keep the life of it a little more

I want to add to this becuase i believe for drift (what i do) the lockers would get alot more wear and tear due to massive slip acceleration of the gears as well as lots of deceleration (on and off the throttle through a slide)

The only reason i would care to put decent oil in the locker is to save me the trouble of getting lots of noise from the housing as well as possibly prevent having to change the centre so often.

Diff oil is what $10 a bottle, i figure for the extra $15 you might get another few track days out of the diff...

im running a borgy atm, i should really get a T series and eventually a proper lsd or two way but i really dont have the money so im looking at ways of preventing to have to do that sooner. Saying this becuase i will most like get a T series as soon as my diff goes

Having said all this tho i do realise the axles are probable the most likely thing to break first, i do have spare axles in this case but i still want to prevent blowing up my diff

ok i can see you want to save money on blowing up diffs. I am in the same place I cant afford to be doing that either. However, the noises you are talking about are probably worn gears or bearings!! Do you have a noisey diff now? The Housing wont make any noise as it is just holding the axle set (axles diff centre and oil) so even if you use good oil it wont make any difference if the diff is noisey there is already a problem that no oil will fix!

I will once again say save you $15 up and every tim you could have spent more on something else then put it in a jar and before you know it you will have the money for your new T series! monay saved better diff in the car and you will be smiling

I run the cheapest crap that comes to hand in my locked T series. It sees plenty of drift and lots of other stuff.

Second hand centres tend to start whining after a decent track day, but then wont break for ages. Usually the axles go (in my expereince).

Just Half Steppin has had the same locked T series in his t 18's for two years and has never checked or changed the oil, or snapped an axle. Even from his abuse its still goin strong....does whine a tiny bit tho..but meh

at the dealer ship, they put LSD diff oil in both open and LSD rear ends. it saves them having to carry both and it works just fine for non-lsd diffs.

... but I got in trouble for doing that at one dealership because the LSD oil is more expensive and they wanted to save money.

i think its pure idiocy to think that putting 15 dollars in a diff once every year at the most will somehow magically add up to 400 for a t series and 1200 for a lsd.

its got nothing to do with the moving parts, its got to do with the way the diff warms up, and there is more significane in over filling your diff than what oil you use, the important thing with a locker is to warm your diff up, lsd oil warms up quicker, and is more tolerant to high temperatures, other standard oils burn out rather quickly and form deposits, if you can imagine fine sand type stuff.

I think for the sake of a few bucks its silly not to. use shitty oil if you want to, but ive had to change my diff 3 times and its not really something i enjoy doing a whole lot.

sorry you got in trouble but this particular dealership carries only LSD oil and puts it in all cars requiring it whether open or limited slip. but i agree with the philosophy of putting higher grade fluids in the car. the mechanics that require them usually aren't cheap and easy to replace

My current diff and axles have a bit of play and some whining, however when i replace the oil i have a locker which is basically new (gears are perfect etc) as well as the matching axles which are just as good condition so i would hope it would start off with a fresh driveline and attempt to keep it in a good condition.
Will also be doing that Automatic tranmission oil thing for my gbox because ive driven a hachi with that done and its toight like a tiguur

I can understand if people say its probably not worth it, but the way i see it if its makes it last one more track day or prevents noise later on i figure its worth extra dosh cash
Besides, i dont go through diffs like every month, my current diff is has been in the housing since late 05'
I just figure it will do it some good to have some better quality oil

(By the way im talking about some basic LSD oil, something that would be slightly better grade than basic diff oil, not the really good stuff such as 2way oil, kaaz etc)
