Most likely the little dial on the right hand side of the steering wheel, near the open door light.
Its easy to knock, just turn it until it gets bright.
ust wondering if anyone has had the same problemas i do!
i have a ae71 84 spirit corolla and a couple of days ago i noticed that when braking the lights on my speed and tacho come on but very faint, i havent had a look yet but wondering if anyone has had this problem before as i think its a short somewhere and i am going to have a look on the weekend at this problem.
just want some idea in what it is or if anyone has had this problem before me so i can work out whats going on, also when this happens my parkers only come on not my full headlight
just thinking that it might be a short but cannot think where to look and find problem.
if anyone has any ideas would be much appriciated.
thanks

no what happens when you brake it glows, even with the ignition turned off and no lights on when the brake pedal is pressed the lights on the guages appear normal colour and its only just started to happen, thinking its a short some how but not sure where to look
any ideas
but it only happens when braking they stay on until you take the brake off the parkers are also dim so it has something to do wit the lights getting power when braking and happens all the time now
just thinking if anyone else has had the same problem
ny idea where to look would be much appriciated
Have you just changed your brake light globes?
I had a similar problem when I accidentally put the wrong globe in a brake light (single filament, not dual filament... or something like that). When I hit the brakes, the bulb caused 12V to be applied to the parker circuit as well as to the brake light. So I got parkers and dash lights whenever I braked.
As a start, try removing each tail light globe and seeing if the problem disappears.
Hen
no i havent changed the globes and i will take them out one by one and see what happens , any other ideas thoe what this problem could be causing it to do that
maybe one of your break lights is partially blown, ie your parklight filament or the main break light filament.

yeah what Hen said
i actually had a car come in where it was doing what you said, went a bit gung ho and looked at heaps of shit for shorts etc.
found a brake bulb had blown and the filament had blown off one end and flicked over to the taillight filament. now every time you brake that power was being redirected through the taillight circuit, which lo and behold continues through tho the dash lights.
was funny, until i was asked why it took 3 hours to change a light bulb
ass spanks
check if any brake lights are out and replace the globe(s).
i had the same problem in my p.o.s.
tailights went out when braking and my (one) brake light came on, along with dashlights. a new globe solved it.
You can have any brew you want... as long as it's a Datsun / Corolla / What is that?
yeah i changed one of the bulbs and no problem is solved
thanks for all the help
cheers
Find where the light circuit earth connects to the chassis, pull them off, give them a ruff up with sand paper and also the chassis where it sits.
Put em back on and see what happens. If you have no earth, all the power feeds back through all the circuits connected to the same earth (which happens to be the car).
See how that goes....
Otherwise i got nothin....
