get a flatblade screwdriver with a thin rag on the end and go around it lightly prizing it up

    or a large hammer....or better yet.......a crowbar.......

nah seriously, the screwdriver + thin rag should do the trick

tap it around the side with a largish rubber mallet till it gives way.

make sure the little washes under the nuts have been taken off, mine wouldn't come off unless i took them off.

Yes sir! Make sure that the little washers around the nuts have been removed BEFORE hand. Use a small flathead screwdriver to do so. Once the washers have been removed you can use the same screwdriver to gently pry off the rocker covers. Make sure to use new gaskets! ALL 8 (if it's 4ag) WASHERS NEED TO BE REMOVED (for the most part)

agree wit htaking off the wahsers, hammer is better to loosen as you wont scratch the sealing surfaces, id use a razor blade before a screwdriver, to avoid damaging bits.
