    Hi all,
I managed to fuck both my key barrel and steering lock thingie this fine evening. Therefore im thinking it would be cheaper to just rig up button start instead of replacing my broken barrel. Just wondering if anyone has had any problem with this or cheap ebay kits.

    Looking at this one:

Also as the key barrel seazed (therefore unable to take off the steering lock) i reefed it till it went bang, then i could turn the wheel like normal and move the car. Just wondering if anyone has also done this?? will it stay broken or lock up mid turn 6 at QR ?. The red plastic peice behind the wheel/bosskit know spins freely unlike a functioning one.

    Many thanks

i would say you've broken steering lock
YES it would lock pending if u only broke it one way (left or right)
however if you broke it both ways it should be fine

alot of people steal cars this way, the ghetto way

yea prolly not good unless you have a isolator switch mainly because it pretty much gives criminals the stuff they need to steal your car.....

make sure you dismantle the steering column and get rid of ALL of the bits of the steering lock, otherwise bits will pop out and lock the column at the most hilarious of times, like just before you need to steer around something to avoid crashing into it

was in my race car when i bought it, just a box has a few switches like for thermo, ignition etc

theres a place over here called richardsons pty ltd that we got a spare battery isolation switch key from, they are like a hardware/locksmiths sorta joint...

    Thanks for the replies guys

Yea not getting an ebay one now, was this on as 86? I haven't checked the wires behind the barrel yet so just wondering if everything needed is there and easy enough to run to 2 seperate switches.

Im hopeing ill be able to retain my immobiliser, so......flick the 'ON' switch, press the immobiliser then press the 'START' on a spring button. I truely i have no idea, so im hopeing someone can walk me through how they did theres.

How would it drain the battery?? wouldn't an OFF/ON switch cut the power the same as the barrel?

Also i was wondering how you strip all the steering lock and key shit off the steering coloum. Its obvious made to be resistant against being stripped and after looking at it today iv got no idea where to start
    Keep the help coming lads

You'll need a 3position switch for OFF - ACC - ON. Use this to connect 12V on one side to either nothing, ACC wire and IG wire respectively.

Then you need a simple pushbutton for start. Connects 12V to STA when you push it. Probably best to make this connect IG to STA, just so you can't start it unless it's switched on.

$5 worth of bits and an hour or so if you want to make it look nice. 5 minutes if not.
