just out of intrest can you turbs a 4age 86kw motor on low boost with ze injectors? what about computer?

never done it my self, pple on this forum will tell u that u can turbo a 4age and that u cant. u will need to go some form of aftermarket ecu such as a safc or equivelant/better
i am at some stage this year looking to do it, basically im the kind of person who likes to prove that u can do things on a small budget (dont like to think of my self as a tight ass thoi spend too much money on booze) safc's can be had off ebay for around $300, no one wants there old t25's off there sr20's they can be had for <$100, use an old skyline etc intercooler u could even get the cooler piping made up at an exhaust shop if u wanted to go cheap
i dont c why you cant use the stock comp my mate had a rb30 and he stuck a turbs on it and it ran fine at 6psi but toyota may be differnt and swaping the injectors wouldnt help. keep me posted on how it goes cheers mate![]()
yeah i guess it all depends on how much flexibility is built into the stock ecu. like how much air it is able to sense, im not exactly sure how you can test that. cause if you stick a turbo on and it maxes out the map/afm sensor, and the engine leans out to crap....that isnt good, maybe if you just wind up the boost very slowly (ie somehow make a way to allow no boost at all in, and slowly go up) , and monitor it with an air/fuel mixture meter thing (does such a thing exist, and if so where does it go? exhaust?)
now you have me intrigued....
also can a stock ecu drive ze injectors? and will the ecu actually put more fuel in? or does the injectors just have the ability to but the ecu wont actually do it cause its programmed for standard ones? (am i talking crap?)
someone soon is gonna say "just do it properly and spend 600$ on an ecu"
but im with yoshimitsu, if it can be done on a tight-ass budget, im in![]()

well im just about to buy a motor was going to go na. but now i wana no if it will work may just bite the bullet and bolt a turbs on. after all some one will have to do it soon cause ze are to dear
standard ecu won't work too well since they are only 1 bar map sensor. You will need an aftermarket ecu of some sort along with a 2 bar map sensor. Razorbacks will work for your application and cheap enough, built in map sensor too. get it tuned properly and depending on the condition of the motor, it will last.
didnt yates have a 20v running turbs and stock comp ratio for a while there? i think as long as boost is sensable and you have a decent cooler with a good tune it should be right.
ken: when you say its a 1bar map sensor, does that mean the ecu can read up to 1bar of air pressure? if this is the case, then technically it should be able to calculate/supply fuel for up to 1bar? if this is not the case then im talking crap again.
either way, i would suggest what ken is saying, even though i said im into budget mods.
ive had a look at one of these razorback ecu's, and they are awesome for the price![]()

wont work with the stock ecu. they have like no learning capability (was toyotas first gen efi afterall) if u bolted a turbo onto a 4agze and ran it at only 7 psi then it would work. as far as i know u cant really do anything to a 4age without having to upgrade the ecu. and no just sticking in 4agze injectors in will not work well because the ecu will just run them at there max flow and it will get around 250km to a tank of fuel
Def won't work with a stock ecu. Will either run really crap or not at all.
Go the razor back, sam does a decent job and they are cheap.
