Keep in mind that motorcycle carbs are smooth bore (no chokes like DCOE's) so a 36mm keihin can flow a similar amount to a DCOE 40/45 with 36mm chokes.)

My Carbie 4AGE is not built yet (oddly enough not because I don't have the cash but because I haven't a car to put it into) but what I've got so far is:

    Mikuni 38mm CV's with linkages
    12.5:1 pistons
    polished rods with ARP bolts
    Balanced bottom end
    Exedy clutch
    Toda HG and cam gears
    Wade 800a cams (read 308deg, 9.5mm lift)
    1SZ-FE solid lifters
    rebuilt head
    4-1 extractors
Mega-jolt lite electronic ignition with Hyundai Excel twin coil packs.
    AE82 external thermostat

Still looking for some stiff valve springs (might end up just buying new,) and some light weight pulleys.

As I've now decided to go down motorcycle carb route if anybody is looking I have for sale:

    Redline DCOE manifold (new)
    gaskets (new)
    2x Mikuni Solex 40mmPPH jetted for mild 1600 (read worked 1600CC 2TG)
Linkage kit (adapted from an aftermarket 18RG kit (thanks to roger)) (new)
    4x 40mm trumpets (new)
    4x Unifilter filter socks (new)
    (head not included)

    $625 posted.

    Cheers

P.S: if you're in adelaide and fancy a ready to go bolt in package drop by Japanese import spares and take a peak at this:

I put a deposit on it but it failed it's leakdown (style of compression test) I believe it's been rebuilt since then.
$2400 was in it when I fronted up the cash, not sure what they're after now.

I'm using a set of carbs off of a yamaha snowmobile(same engine as the yamaha R1,Fz1,fazer motorcycle)with a turbo from a WRX.Works well, just fine tuning part throttle as wot is good at the 14lbs of boost I'm set for.
Using a 3tc vacuum dizzy modded to fit the 4ag head, combined with an msd boost retard box for timing control.

Thanks, had loads of troubles with standalones so it was either going to be a completely different engine swapped in and stock(too much cash for the power level/max weight I wanted)or something I could trouble shoot and tune myself. This set-up goes back to spark and fuel to make it run instead of calibrating sensors and all the other stuff that standalones require.
After much reseach I settled on these for the costs(carbs were free, turbo was bought used for under $200)and the ease of use when pressurized. You can google turbo R1/turbo RX1 for lots of tips on set-ups.
So far I'm very happy, the carbs transition perfectly from off to on throttle and when boost ramps up there's no bogs, missfires or roughrunning.I have afr's in the high 11's at wot and full boost, just need to make some fine adjustments for part throttle.
Yes I know a well tuned efi will outperform my set-up,I have a grand total of about $300 into my fuel and ignition so I'm ok with that.

I don't know about parts availability for solex's but you can get just about everything locally for a webber aslong as you have the $$$$

I never got this running, but I went for a totally mechanical setup. It consisted of:

    - Stock bigport 4AGE
    - Redline manifold
    - 40mm Webers
    - Cheap-arse softmounts and Nylock nuts to hold the carbies on.
    - 3K distributor. Just whacked a 4AGE dizzy gear on the end, and made an adaptor plate for the head so it all matched.

That's about all the stuff I thought about. I feel 40mm are a better bet than 45s unless you want crazy outright power. I bought my 40s from a guy who raced them on a 4AGE and he claimed 185hp from the engine.
