Jeezus, hate to think of the cost.... Sierra boxes are mega expensive and far from bulletproof even in your 120hp modded 1.6 Ford kent sort of applications, cannot see it being a good thing in the long run.
I finally tracked down a Japanese built 2ZZ for the right price (as opposed to locally delivered South African built ones for $1000 plus that have dubious reliability).
I've started looking into getting it into an 86 shell I have here at work.
It doesn't look too hard, some usual issues, some new ones. The water system is a headache but at least its coil and igniter on plug with direct crank triggering so no ignition firewall probs.
There are no mount bosses on the LHS but if I delete the A/C then that gives me 3-4 M8 bosses to play with which may be enough. I've checked the lift bolts and theyre unbroken - yay. (a common problem on these motors).
As for transmission im just grafting a JDM T50 on to it (with an aussie bell housing as the inlet is other side) The clutch is a 212mm with small spline just like a smallport/20V.
The higher profile cam looks huge and duration is up on it too. The inlet cam has infinite VVT, like both cams on the Beams 3S in my coupe. I'll be using adaptronic engine management of course as it runs the dual VVT on the beams no problems and the variable lift is simply an RPM dependent switch with oil pressure and engine temp interlocks (easy to implement).
Anyway, some pics to follow soon in a build up thread. I'm trying to do it in a repeatable way (ie, feasiible for a customer to afford to do it again).

so u reckon it would all work anthony? and all up costs would be good to note too![]()
Sounds like a kool conversion would be expensive but its worth it 4 LIFT
Anthony
just after a bit of info on the varible cam setup with these engines (setting up an autronic on a turbo sportivo)
having trouble getting info on how much advance/ retard ?? & type of signal to drive it
any help would be very helpful thanks Drew
so how much was the jap 2zz?
repeatable way? where do you work? if you do it id love to get it done to my ae86.
He works at kaizen garage, qld. the conversion can be done to your ae86 for 8500 drive in, drive out if my memory is still working.
id have to keep the ae86 for atleast another 3 years if I were to spend that on a conversion. but it is tempting. guess ill start saving and see what happens
I bought a semi-dead 2zz about a year ago.....still not sure what to do with it![]()
just watch these....
