I'm going to be going to Osaka for about a week in about a months time and was wondering what are some cool things to see there. I'll probably get a lonely planet or something an check it out but other people might have some sweet ideas. After that I'm going to China for about 3 weeks and back home so it should be sweet.
I also just wanted to rub it in your faces that I'm going to Japan and you're not. Yay for me

PS.I've had a shitty day so forgive me for not being a happy camper.

I'll mention now, its hard to see the drift scene over there without really knowing anyone..

So try to get in contact with someone over there..

I can't see myself watching any drifting or even driving over there unless I somehow get lucky. I was thinking more about touristy stuff to do and anything especially cool to check out.

I would have said go to Expoland (a cool theme park in Osaka), but a week ago one of the rollercoasters fell apart. 1 dead and about 30 injured! I rode that rollercoaster a few times back in 2004

Kyoto is mad if you wanna go check out the temples etc and its only a short train ride away. I also recommend going to the Daibutsu (giant buddist statue) in Nara. Oh and Osaka castle too.

In the city, go to Umeda and Shinsaibashi. From Umeda you can walk to DenDen town, which is the electronic district. Very good place to buy digi cameras etc.

As already said, you need to know someone to to take you up to the mountains to see drifting. I was there in Feb and saw some awesome wet weather action.

Thanks shortround. I'll have to look into that stuff.

TAS86 Yeah I went an taught in CHina for 6 months and came back for uni. I'm going back over to visit friends and do some site seeing and just happened to get some really cheap tickets to Japan so thought may as well do that on the way. It should be good.

My friend who lives in Osaka has told me about a crackdown on street drift/drags. Meihan sports centre circuit is quite a bit of a trip to get there.

I went there in 2005 and we got to go to upgarage, autobacs, trial .. I think Carland (ae86 dealer!) is in kyoto? I can't remember off the top of my head. I never got to go there though.

Don't forget to try the "Takumi burger" at MOS burger. You can only get it from the MOS burgers that have the green sign (not red) after 2pm. Comes with a signed card by the chef too. 1000yen!
