So my car is pretty much all sorted out now! Hooray!

Alternator was dead (typical 25-year old car problem ) as was the regulator, so they were both replaced. I can now drive at night, with music cranked! As proven on Friday night Nice new shiny parts in my engine bay too

A couple more pics, taken by my dad (ironically on one of the days when the car had a flat battery  )

    ^^My favourite pic

Oh and check out what I got for my birthday today :

Its been a little while again, had to go through a few pages in order to get to here

Completed another service on the car today: full oil change, oil and air filters, new wipers and new air freshener

I've been running Penrite HPR 30 in the 4AC since the last change, and decided to stick with it because it seems to provide good lubrication and makes the car run well. Its been nearly 3 months since the last time I did a change (including one track day and a cruise), so the oil was pretty black, but nowhere near as bad as when I swapped the Motul out of it last change. Still had enough viscosity in it when I pulled it out, which is good to see. Hopefully the smaller interval between changes will have cleaned the 24 years of gunk out a little

Also had a bit of a play with the carby, using some of the instructions from my Toyota service manual. I need to learn a lot more about playing with mixture settings before tuning it properly, however what I found was that the fuel level in the carby was very high, right to the top of the sight. I knew the car was running rich, but I didn't think it was that bad. I will have to check it out further, and see if I can lean it out a little, I have a feeling that it will increase power a little and drop my fuel consumption.

Finally, pumped the tyres up to where they should be (40psi each wheel). I might (if I find time) drop the pressures on the front a little, during the post-service strap around the block the car was understeering a little too much for my liking. With the tyre pressures down, the car had some more grip, but could be sluggish and also 'walked around' on its tyres a fair bit when pushed hard. I guess its one of those things that I need to play a fair bit with to get optimal results that I am happy with.

Nothing else is new, no new photos, car sounds awesome with the exhaust work done on it a couple of months ago, no flat batteries (touch wood ) Hopefully suspension mods will happen in the new year (assuming I can afford them... lol), need to get RCA's on the front to reduce the understeer feeling, plus camber adjustment to cancel out the difference in camber that I have at the moment. And an LSD, I am really over having an open diff, and the resulting lack of good slides that can happen. I am thinking a 2-way diff will go in there well, gives me a certain amount of future-proofing as well when I get to do an engine conversion on it... but that is just a pipe dream at the moment

Oh and the Car PC idea is still on my wishlist, we will be Telstra dealers at work soon, and with Winamp's new Remote feature, I (hopefully) can stream whatever music I want from my PC at home over wireless broadband, without it actually being in the car! Found a nice area for a card reader to go in too. It will cost a fair bit of money to buy the gear and get it installed, and I am still yet to play with Winamp Remote to see how well it works (and I am very much aware of all the limitations with Wireless broadband, no matter who the provider is). So it will still be a fair way away, as I have other priorities (a lot of them not having anything to do with the car), but it is something that not a lot of people do, and if I can do it right I will be happy

Hope to see some of you guys on the upcoming cruise too :2thumbs: I haven't had a real long drive in the car for a long time (including the last drive, that turned out to be :fap: ), so it will be great to get some high mileage on the car now that it is serviced and happy again

i was gonna put a pc in my 2nd last car. didnt end up doin it.

what i decided to do if i was gonna do it was
-use a laptop because i dont wanna stuff the HDD with a normal desktop. the HDD's in lappys as you know are shock resistant and spin at slower speeds. store it under the front passenger seat.
-have a cd player with aux input for the pc for sound
-have a din size touch screen that goes above the cd player that is used to control the lappy which is connected through usb.
-have an ac adaptor to power the laptop and get a decent new alternator. depending on how much youre gonna use this maybe consider a dual battery system.

everything else really depends on how you manage your computer.

i thought this would be pretty cool because i could also use GPS through the pc and display it on the touchscreen and get a satalite position of where i am through the wireless broadband. i also wanted my entire music collection on hand.

instead i just kept my pioneer speaker system with aux imput and bought a creative zen to have my entire music collection on hand. i honestly dont use it that often because i only really drive short trips these days and i cant be bothered turning everything on and deciding what i wanna listen to. i just have a mp3 cdrw that i change every week or so that starts up quick everytime i turn my car on and so i have a nice variety.

People nearly fell over when I got the 6-stacker DVD installed in the car, then when I told I wanted to extend it, they thought I was crazy

Solution to storage is Compact Flash, they are holding more and more these days, and they are solid state. Probably will be putting it into the little slot on the right of the driving column below the dash, should fit perfectly.

The only reason I want to do it, is because I am a tech junkie, and love playing and living with a set up like that. Having the best I can in the car with me makes me happy

Only downside is that the LCD touchscreen in the Pioneer head deck seems to have a proprietary interface, I have a feeling that I won't be able to use the touchscreen as input to the computer. Oh well, it has component input so output from the computer will be fine

Car is running like a charm, feels soo nice on acceleration. Plenty more available torque, car is smoother to get up to speed... high speed actually... lol. I'll need to do some more research on carby tuning to get the most out of the engine. Looking forward to it

Car security is thought of Toyed with the idea of linking the ignition with the carputer, make it enter a PIN or something... but thats pretty wak in an old car like that, I think

    Photo update:

    Morning glory:

Cheers to Hao and xcedricx for the happy snaps

Car went well on the cruise, works really well through the mountains. Need a bit more power to get up the hills after slowing down though

And a look at the brakes, after the foot went to the floor coming up to a tight left-hander :o Engine was a bit hot, I let it cool down and it seemed to sort the brakes.

Apart from that, no changes
