    Toyota AE86 Sprinter Group A. VIN# AE86-16204

    History
According to Bob Holden it was built originally as a GpA rally car, possibly for Brian Hilton of Mossman NSW, and probably in mid 1983. It was purchased by Bob Holden Motors and converted to circuit racing. Bob campaigned it in ATCC 1985-92 taking a class win at Bathurst in 1987. There were multiple drivers over these years with Bob leasing/renting it to whoever came along. It was sold to Adrian Brooke in 1990 who extensively refurbished it with the help of Peter Helihen, a well-known local race mechanic. Its last major circuit event was 1993 Bathurst, with the major sponsor being 4KQ. At that time, computer systems were very expensive so they removed the computer and it supposedly became the last carburetor car to run at Bathurst. Subsequently used for limited club-level racing, then for “rally experience". At some time during this later phase the front AP brakes, webers and bag tank were discarded and a Motec computer fitted to control the refitted Toyota injection.

    Toyota Sprinters
This model of car was raced here by Toyota Team Australia (TTA), Bob Holden Motors and multiple privateers. Some retained the local model name of “sprinter", while others used “Levin", the performance Japanese model, which came standard with the performance 4AG twin cam engine. TTA also raced a few coupes, which had a different body but identical mechanics. Locally sold Sprinters were typically upgraded to Levin spec for racing using imported packages from specialist wreckers, or from Toyota, who bought in a limited number of spares to support the race program. The Levin spec cars had many important differences, rear discs, 4AG engine, larger radiator, larger diff & axles, vented front brakes. The homologated parts list is long, and much of it was from prominent suppliers like AP Racing and TRD. A lot of the originally homologated parts like brakes were further upgraded from 1991 onwards, when freedoms came into the rules. There is a flourishing club in Australia and they remain a cult car in Japan, UK, and USA.

    Current state
It was purchased with front body damage and with many parts missing (see pics). It is now largely disassembled for restoration. It has its original shell and GpA log book with matching numbers. Many small parts like bolts, clips, bits of trim will be missing requiring visits`to local wrecker.

He want roughly 20000 based on parts value. Good luck I reckon, unless some one values the car's historical value that much. Which is tossery wank factor thing to value anyway.

Fark that's disappointing to see a Grp A in that sort of decayed condition.

Instead of being used as a bloody rally hack it should have remained in it's original race spec.

That AE86 was also in Zoom in the late 90's, OMG SIK!
Could be a good racecar project, I would personally love to see one or two in Gr. A/Gr.C association racing. And the Peter Williamson ma61 Supra if it still exists.
