Thread: 4agze into ae86

    hi all

i am in the process of searching for a sprinter and a engine to put into it and have decided i would like the 4agze and have priced it up around $2000 for engine, g/box, loom and computer

i want to know how difficult this is as a conversion to do, making new engine mounts and that kind of stuff is not a problem as i have the know how and the tools to do so

what else is needed for the conversion, rad, fuel pump ect

    also is this conversion legal

i have spent a shit load of hours trying to find all the info i can on this conversion and didnt come up with much

the sprinter i was looking at buying did not have a engin or gbox already so i do not know what was in there, otherwise i would get one with an engine that needed replacing

the car will mainly be used on the street with the occasional trip to the track

    any help is great, thankyou

hey mate welcome to the forums, you prolly gonna get flamed for "not searching" but i know what you mean, hard to find good answers, so ill help try ya out a little

-4agze bolts up to stock ae86 gearbox (T50)
-also bolts up to stock engine mounts, so no custom anything to hold it in, use 4ac engine mounts
-fuel system will need to be something decent, id go with a surge tank setup, bit of info around about that, using a lift pump and a VL turbo fuel pump. you'll to get a bigger feed fuel line, and use stock one as your return.
-good idea to upgrade the radiator, good upgrade is st162 celica radiator, twin core/twin thermo fans
-i belive it is engineerable, so long as you got brake upgrade to suit, but i havent done or tried to get it engineered
-you'll need a new exhaust as well (with most engine conversions)

theres some important stuff im forgetting i know it, but that gives you an idea

pretty easy conversion, hardly different to 4age from what i gather

    hope it kinda helped

i was told it was a reasonalby hard conversion because the 4agze is a fwd motor and needs some modification to be fitted into a rwd application

yeah i have considered the break upgrade and did read that you can use s13 braks and as im putting r33 breaks on my sil i will have my brakes left over to put on the sprinter

if it bolts straight up and the engine still being a 1.6 as the standard one is i dont see anyproblem getting it certified then, is the fuel pump issue a hard one to deal with or is it relativly easy, why do i need to chage the fuel line??

    thankyou

the standard radiator is adequate bet youll have to make custom radiator hoses i just use a long flexi hose from the rear of the negine to the rad. u need a longer accelerator cable too. alternator wiring and ecu wiring.

fuel line does not supply enuf fuel for the engine im using a rubber efi hose form the surge tank. if you want u can just stick a vl fuel pump in line that will work!

do you just extend the cable or does it need to be replaced with one from another car, would it be easy to get a fuel cell with the vl pump and run new lines??

wireing is just extinding wires ye so thats not really anything major

nar mate use a ke20 or a jdm 86 or a ae71 accel cable and easiest to hjust throw a lv pump in line havent had any issues with mine doing it that way, only fuel surge when its low on fuel around corners.

also how much power can be extracted out of a 4agze easily, i say easily but i mean with minimal upgrades

    stuff like
    fmic, exhaust, pod, more boost

what sort of numbers can you get with other mods such as a new supercharger or turbo, which of the 2 would be a better upgrade as i will want to do this, im guessing the supercharger route will be more expensive but will it make more power or a power curve more suitable to drifting

if you can post up what power you have and what you used to achive it that would be greatly appriciated

    cheers

    Ben
