Any PCB tech-heads in the house?

I want to rice the shit out of a car using LED's

I have about 300ish LED's ready to go and wiring almost ready

Looking to make it Laptop driven... So I need some form of Circuit Board driver and software to plug into a laptop to trigger / sequence LED's

Anyone seen something like this before?

    Cheers

    Nick

    Jaycar?

The used to offer an LED dash light replacement kit.

it had a serial port connection and could be computer programmed.
    (flashing, colours etc.)

I'm not too smart at this but if I'll give it a go. I have an idea or two on how to get this to work.

You could do PC interface with this.

That will do 8 digital outputs and 2 analog outputs. Also has 10 analog inputs which I guess you could use to toggle between different flashing programs or maybe log data.
You will have to learn to do basic programming C language.

Do you want to turn a bank of them on/off or write stuff as that sort of info would help.

Something like this would also do your PC interface but I am not familiar with these things.

This is an option if you don't want PC interface and maybe use a few if one isn't enough? Haven't played with these things so I don't know.

So you want a scrolling LED message kinda thing? Having been one who's quite happy playing with electronics (designing and making my own desulphator at the moment!), I'd have to say the easiest thing to do would probably get one of those LED belt buckles and modify that to display a message. There are heaps of already made circuits out there... Maybe go to ye generic 12v specialist (in brisbane there's Springers), and ask what they have...

Where will it stop? Will it ever be finished? How will it go? Why am I not wearing any pants?

Hmm, anything that could control "channels" of LED's via serial or USB port.

Ideally i'd like to be able to control at least 50 LEDs.... using a laptop
