Is there a difference between the 4spd E7 tail shaft and the 5spd E7. Length or bolt holes.
Please specify model.
Ke70 came with both 4 and 5 speed gearboxes (k40 and k50)
Ae71 came with 5 speed gear box (t50)
There is a difference between the ae71 and ke70 driveshafts. Im pretty sure the bolt holes would be similar but i think that the ae71 is two piece. I think that is, dont take that for gospel. Someone more knowledgeable should be able to confirm/provide you with the correct facts
Ae71 and ke70 have the same diff flange and both are 2 piece but the splines that go into the box are different.
K50 and K40 ke70 shafts are the same.
I dont think you will find a T40 in a ae71 ?
The T40 is more common in America. I have heard of people finding a T40 in AE71 vans (in Australia) but can't be sure of this.
The T40 and T50 are externaly identical. I have heard of the T40 mostly in relation to the TE30 series corollas in USA. The SR-5 TE37 came with T50, but if you had a T40 you could go to Toyota and buy internal parts to upgrade to a T50.
have seen t40 in mates ae71 van (got pedal box from it)

ae71 t50 and ae86 shafts are the same

no. you have a K40, which has a different output spline to the T50.
edit: you may be able to use an AE71 front half and a KE70 rear half of the tailshaft but i'm only speculating. as i dont know if KE70's even run 2 piece tailshafts.
you can't seperate a ke70 tailshaft... nor will it bolt up to a t-series diff
ke70/ae71's run a 2 piece tailshaft

If you use a T-18 T50 gearbox from before June 1981 the output shaft will be the same spline as a K series and you won't have to change tailshafts.
