COuld anyone tell me the spark gap and points gap for a 5k?
im pretty sure they need doing seeing as my car refuses to start in the morning even with a full battery and 2 people push start woudlnt work either
it woudlnt start this arvo with a jump either, then did 2 person push again and it started and ran on 3 cylenders when i gave it throttle at any rate of speed faster than about 2mm a second until it ahd warmed up and then it ran fine,
so yeah could someone tell me the p[oints and spark gap for the 5k (its in a ke30 btw)
or if u cant tell me that, give me your 2 cents on what the problem is (and not the problem that its a k engine)

    cheers

carby perhaps? sounds like it might not be getting fuel rather than not getting spark

are you sure it was running on three and not just running poorly on all cylinders?

Almost all spark plugs sold are gapped at either 0.8mm or 1.1mm. So gap your plugs at about 0.8mm.

Points gap should be between 0.4-0.5mm or about 0.018". You can meausre this gap either at the rubbing block, or at the points. And the points should be flat. They often weld themsleves in a odd shape and are too hard to file. Get new ones.

If the motor runs fine when warm, I would say the carbie needs a look at. Adjust the choke. The choke butterfly should be almost fully closed when cold.

Also check for vacuum leaks around the manifolds. To do this, spray some throttle body cleaner around the manifold when the engine is running. If there is a leak, the engine will suddenly run smooth when you spray the stuff.

does it have an auto choke? if so might want to check to make sure its working, if you take off the aircleaner and stuff, get a mate to hold the choke closed, and then try and start it.

or you could fiddle with the mixture screw, when i was playing with my carbie if i wound the idel mixture screw in to far it wouldn't start, and as i wound it out (richer) it slowly began starting and when it did start it splutter and carried on like you are describing and if i reved it it would rev fine but woudlnt idle. so yeah have a play with the idle screw as well

got it, wasnt spark or points, well that could be done but main thing is
coil wasnt creating a big enough spark, to start i need to bypass the resister with wire and 2 alligater clips and it wil start, then take it off,

i got my dad as a amember of the raa to get them to come check it out and thats ther diagnosis, they sed that the wireing for the coil needs to be setup differently so probly the guy that put this 5k in wasnt exactly sure what he was doing, meh either way, im happy, i can start it now lol

There is ment to be a wire from the starter solenoid to the + side coil. This way, when you are cranking the coil gets full battery voltage.
