T3 Rear Coilovers

Looking at T3 coilovers for the front and rear. Have got a very good price from Gabe and just wondering if there is anyone using these coilovers in the rear and is there any modification needed to install into the rear.

I don't have rear coilovers but the obvious concern is the ability of the top damper mount section to cope with the load placed upon it in this case, rather than through the usual upper spring mount.

I am guessing you would need to reinforce the rear tower? No doubt this has been covered on toymods, I would suggest searching there as I am sure there will be a diffcult to follow answer involving metallurgy and drawings with lots of load calculations.

Amongst all that however will be an informed & reliable response.

It is pretty well advertised over the net that if you put coilovers in the rear of your sprinter you will need to reinforce the lower shock mount.

I've never seen one break but maybe that is because everyone reinforces them... or it could also be that they are just fine.

If I were to install rear coilovers though I would reinforce the bottom mount. There is an IPRA RA40 celica with a 3sge on toymods that I seemed to remember having a nice looking upgraded bottom mount.

Oh and heads up on 'bashing your inner guard' .. Put aside about 6 hours to do it.

I think if you either run a smaller diameter spring or one that has a low spring perch then it wouldnt be such a problem.

I run the T3 coilovers front and rear. I have not reinforced the shock mounts and no modifications were done. They work just fine and I love them. I also have the shock rebound rate set at "8" so it's a suuuper stiff ride. I've been running it like this and driving hard on it with no problems whatsoever. Hipe this helps.

its advised to brace the lower shock support as well as seam welding the upper cup as well to avoid stress under prolonged harsh conditions.
all the stress is under these two points.
