keep in mine good springs (ie heay weight) and shit shocks wont work
Good shocks and shit springs will.

as for falcon springs being 6kg, tell them theyre dreaming. I sold a pair of 4kg rears for some cutties and theyre about the same in kg/mm wise. with the added benefit of custom height

Yes!Yes!Yes!please post up pics of how low your car sits and state whats done to it (as im really keen on getting the lowest springs i can with standard struts, etc. and if its low enough i can save ALOT of money and not go coilovers!!)

im running upfront sigma LCA's and 8kg springs with mr2 shocks and ra40 rack ends gave me 3.75 neg camber without adjustable strut tops. all bolt in basically with strut cut down ofcourse

rear falcon springs chopped ( 6.5kg guess???) sierra short stroke shocks t3 4 link swaybars front and back strut braces front and back.. its good for drifting and mucking around but its fucked to drive on roads with imperfections as u feel everything wouldnt recomend it for a daily driver on sydney roads less u got short trips or dedicated to driving the 86 haha

i have $1000 to spend on my front suspension alone. the car is / will be road registered, but i have a daily vehicle.

this means no comprimises lol, im not fussed if its stiff as fuck, but i need it setup well for drift, and the odd circut run.

what do we think? i was looking at AJPS coilovers, but in the end i dont think its doable given the budget?

OK Guys.
Has anyone got pics of low your can go on Standard Struts??with un-cut springs...
I hear of heaps of people if the AJPS setups...i want it to be about 10-20mm guard and tyre clearance!!
6kg front and 4kg rear...i spoke to dave (AJPS) and got prices, etc.
but he is in S.A. and im in N.S.W (30mins south of Byron Bay), Ballina 2478.
does anyone remember their postage cost from AJPS to gold coast/nothern rivers area??

Also Coilovers is the ONLY benefit height adjustability and ability to run higher spring rates??is it true your steering response/feel is better??or just BS?

FTR, On standard struts with Excel-G short shocks, its about 18cm or so from the ground to the door sill. 185/R60/14" actually fits inside the guard, the top of the wheel probably sits a few centimetres below the bottom of the guard (roughly):




I'll put my head on the chopping block, and say that going coil-overs first up probably isn't the ideal way to go. Something like this set-up is the best to start off with, to get a feel for a tighter, rougher suspension (especially for a daily driver), and step up to a coil-over based set-up from there. Thats my gut feeling, as driving my car with the AJPS 8kg/6kg has taught me a lot about the car, my driving style, while being predictable and reliable for use as a daily driver.

i was thinking that to.
i haven't really drifted/raced much. (nothing off street, mainly illegally)
want to keep it all legal now
so i'm quite crap.
but was looking for a set-up to start on that covers:

-daily duties
-nice set up to suit drift/circuit
-won't cost my my left nut, or kidney

then after i've improved...will go for a S13 set up.

any ideas would be greatly valued.

either way getting a decent suspension isnt gonna be all that cheap, i was in this predicament not that long ago, and decided to go all out the first time (this is front suspension here) ended up goin straight to S13 front end with brand new coilovers (cost be about 1000$ all up for the front) other factors that influenced my decision was the all important brake upgrade (im sorry but stock ke70 brakes suck, any more than 2 people in the car, and it was terrible). i have been told that stock ae86 brakes arent as bad as ke70 ones. but i figured that if i was gonna do it once i might as well do it properly the first time.

having said that, if you can get your hands on some 2nd hand springs and some decent shocks for the front (ie thinking about cheap options with the intention of getting coilover setup later on, as you mentioned Ade_Mc) then by all means go for it.

just make sure that at the end of the day if you had spend 300$ more you could have an excelent coilover/brake setup.
