    Hey guys,
would any of yers know if it's possible to use a silvertop dizzy on a blacktop engine? I'm asking cos a ST dizzy can working either spinning clockwise or anticlockwise, where as the BT dizzy must be turned in the correction direction. Which means if i use a ST dizzy on my blacktop engine I can do a distributor relocation by flipping it around and connecting it to a cam wheel, instead of keeping it facing the same direction and using a belt system.

Both the AE101 and AE111 distributor are exactly the same part as far as I can see. So yes they are interchangeable.

if you are running an aftermarket ecu which i would reccomend, u can just take off the dizzy cap and use whats left as a crank angle sensor and run quad coils

So the fact that the BT dizzy was designed to only work when turned in the one direction shouldn't have an effect on the ST dizzy advancing/retarding? Because people have tried using the BT dizzy spinning backwards resulting in a very lumpy engine.

Yeah I was thinking about an aftermarket ecu... but realised unless your going big cam's it's absolutely pointless. Their expensive, takes a lot of dyno time and money to tune anywhere near as good in terms of power, power delivery and economy and not to mention illegal. Besides, a decent amount of power can be gained through other mods when using the stock ecu... not to mention the parts you could buy from the cash saved!
....Oh... and most of all, a dizzy conversion is cheaper, and I'm a cheap bastard.

The original position of the dizzy has the leads facing the firewall, now if you flip it around so your running the dizzy attached to a cam wheel, the dizzy will spin in the opposite direction.

Will end up looking like this...

I think the more common conversion in Japan now is to leave the dizzy in place in the normal position. But have just the rotor button and distributor cap on the front. That way you just run the factory ECU and wiring and plug leads. You only need to make an adapter on the cam wheel and mount for the dizzy cap.

But I have some 1AZ-FE coils I may use.

Umm I'm not quite following... do they leave the distributor base in the original position and just attached the rotor to the cam wheel with the distributor cap over it? Could you please explain it a bit clearer, cos I'd definitely be interested if it's an easier and better way.

    Thanks,
