I dunno about 4age, but if you're considering a CHEAP upgrade, DO NOT go for 3sgte!!!! To do it properly you will see no change out of $10k!![]()
Hey AE86DC,
I have been looking through the forum and found that most of the threads on conversion costs are mainly heresy..SO i wanted to make this thread to help me and others in budgeting for engines and deciding which is more cost effective, but will still produce good power (Best Bang for Buck Motor?)!
1) i was thinking of doing the 20v conversion DIY (getn the stuff done by Kaizen and me bolt it on and install it) the costs are:
- $800 for Motor and Cut loom (manual) and $400 for minor service (belts and pumps, etc.)
- $200 for Cooling Conversion Kit (Exchange)
- $65 Dizzy/Crank Angle sensor Plate
- $255 Extractors
- $900 Adaptronic (Pre-Tuned to 85-95rwKW)
- $400 for Custom Loom (With All Sensors)
- $330 for Coilpacks
- $320-ish for H/Duty Clutch
Total for 20v: $3270 w/out service or $3670 with minor service.
So basically what i want to know is the FACTS from people who have DONE the conversion, like what parts i have missed and how much more it will cost (i need it to be rego'd and engineered in N.S.W) do i need the brakes done, etc.
2) But considering the price of that i was also considering doing a smallport 100KW 16v conversion into my AE86..
What has it cost people to do this??
i was thinking of:
- Getting a complete engine, loom and ecu out of a wreaked AE92.
- Cut and Shut Intake Manifold.
- Change the Water Housings to RWD 16v Bigport Items (does it defanately work?)
- Using the Std ECU and getin the loom modified
Total: $??
or just a RWD 16v Bigport JDM Motor!!but does it really have 96KW??or just 86KW??
Also id rather DIY to an extent to save money, so i was thinking the JDM 16v as its already RWD!!but are they any good?hard to come by?easily moded to make power...?
HELP PLEASE!
Dan.

do 16v more options available and more parts available too
JAPANESE DOMESTIC MARKET AS F*CK!!! hmmm, when you prenounce it properly, it sounds gayhow bout that.
Thats what im leaning more towards, because its cheaper up front and less fucking around!
Which 16v though?is there that much difference between them?id like to get a JDM Bigport 16v RWD Complete Engine Package, coz its just a bolt in affair!!but they are hard to come by...anyone recommend a place to source them from??
so can anyone confirm DEFINIATLY if the JDM 16v Bigport has 96KW or still just 86kw like the AUS FWD one???
wats a good price for a JDM 16v Bigport???
Whats some good/cheap modifications people have done and seen good results from??
Dan.
16v is definitely the go in my opinion man.
How much did/has yours cost you??/will it cost ME?
what type of 16v is it?
jap ae86 bigport cost me about $1500 all up including 1000 for motor package including extractors ecu loom inlet alternator etc then the rest went on exhaust and fuel pump and lines and filters etc
98kw, 100kw and 86kw are just ways of identifying the engines. They are the factory rated power that the engine came with (some people say they are overestimated but I don't know). Also an engine that is 20 years old is likely not to be putting out the same power as it was from the factory anyway.
If I were to do it again I would go a 100kw because they are slightly more torquey and most will have lower kays and they are still cost effective and easy to upgrade...
top bad they arnt 100kw though, I wonder what they are
30kw club
ive got a ae92 smallport cost me $1000 landed in oz, but since then ive spent excessive amoujnt of money on making it better. oh can you still buy rwd water setups brandnew to make the conversion an easy bolt in?
Dr1ft-pig got one from Anthony at Kaizen for his 20V, but unsure if the 16V would adapt to that or he does one specific for it.
