    so, hi lux axles.

Can anyone who nows them tell me about em??

do they fit with no mods to the ae86 rear end or do they require new mounts?

are they longer or shorter that ae86 axles?

do Altezza diffs fit in? If not what does?

And what year hi lux do people use?

or are they just a ball buster to fit??

Im just thinking ahead as I would like to do a 4agze conversion to my KE so any thoughs or advice appreciated dudes!

    or other ideas too!

you're talking about the whole diff right?
if so then it will need custom mounts, i used one out of a 2wd hilux (chassis code RN41) this is about 20mm wider than a t-series.
    the factory lsd's are crap, u can fit a 2-way out of jzx81 cressida's.

    the axles are alot thicker.

the factory drums will fit behind 14's.

    custom tailshaft.

and it clears everything underneath a ke70.

They are just like fitting any other diff. You need to swap mounts so that it bolts in.

Width is 1370 (rare), 1410 and huge (search to check those figures). They are a G series diff. Many LSDs available.

Altezza is IRS. So no. Not unless you are very competent with fabrication and suspension theory.

Check the diff thread in Tech articles too.

    cheers guys.

what I meen is, the Hi Lux axles are a solid axle and was wondering if the complete rear axles would fit?

So your sayin it would fit but it would need new mounting points for the 4 links and panard??

I understan that a new prop shaft would be needed, and was told that Altezza DIFFS (not complete axles) fit in the hi Lux casising??

Basically, if it a load of work im not interested, its just if its a near fit then....

Just I have never seen one used on an ae86 so I guess it wont be a straight fit, I just wanted any advice from peeps who have used one/fitted one for the extra strength it offers.

The hilux diff/third member is a 5 stud diff so you'll have to get that converted to 4 stud or convert the car to 5 stud.

You need to cut off and weld on the ke70's diff mounts onto the hilux housing in the same spots as they were on the corolla. This includes upper and lower trailing arms, swaybar mounts(if you plan to run one), spring perches and panhard rod mount. This means making the thing below:

The housing needs to be straightened after the new mounts are welded to it, no matter how carful the welder is.

    Altezzas are A01A or A01B.

The whole swap isn't the easiest thing to do. Much easier to pay a diff shop to do it.

altezza diff's are f-series, if you get the front diff off a hilux then you can use it BUT the centre isn't in the centre of the diff, lol.
    sooo that won't work

Ok, first things first, the axles are the parts INSIDE the diff housing, the centre piece which is interchangeable between diff series (ie. T, G, S etc.) and hilux diffs are a G series.

If you go to my members ride page then it shows what's involved in fitting a hilux diff.

You need to first, as showed in the above post, make a jig from your existing diff to ensure the mounts are in the same position.

I wouldnt waste my time taking the brackets off your old diff to fit to the replacement, i simply had new mounts laser cut. I used the existing panhard and swaybar mounts, although sway bar ones had to be customised to mount lower to clear larger diff housing. Im using a new Detroit Locker center in mine too!

Once it's all done needs to be straightened, professionally, as welding will 'bow' the housing which = big problems later on. Usually the guy who's going to make your tailshaft up can do this for you. Tailshaft needs to be professionally done too, as it needs to be perfectly balanced to avoid vibrating your car to pieces!

Not a big job to fit this diff, prob do in 5 hours, but need other things like tailshaft, brakes connecting etc which will take more time.

Im unsure of the brakes as i am fitting disks and im keeping the 5 stud pattern, but if you wanted to change it to 4 stud it is not biggy.

An easy upgrade, very easy in fact. I'd say if you are too lazy or incapable of fitting a hilux diff, dont even think about an engine conversion.

Japlish, are they just an F-series that's now called A-series diff or are you just saying that since both are 7.5".

Medwin, what did the mounts cost to get laser cut? I've got a few housing to chop up so mounts aren't a worry yet. What did you do for spring perches as I can't see any of the pics of the diff?

I think I can manage it then but I am still lazy!

Thanks for all the info, all I really need to undrtad is that they are NOT a direct swap like I have been told by someone, which I thought was the case.

    cheers dudes

I think the mounts were about $40 for 8 pieces (4 sets of 2 brackets). I used the original spring perches, will get pics up when it's finished ie. pulled out and powdercoated.
