you find that anoying! i love that noise. my 4ae does it and so did my 250 xflow outta my last car. my mates xr8 boss did it after he got extractors put on it.
i dont what causes it but i thought it was a normal thing. i like it
Hi guys, I recently unbolted my exhaust and after reattaching it, my car is popping like mad when I take my foot off the accelerator. Could this be caused by not sealing the previously dettached areas properly? I heard some older carby engined cars do the same when sealing is not good enough along the exhaust system. I was also told that the type of gasket I used (i.e the silver stuff with the little holes in it) doesn't need sealing with gasket goo? any help would be greatly appreciated as I am attracting too much unwanted attention and it's getting really ennoying.
EDIT: Is this only caused by air getting into the exhaust system and igniting? if so, are there any other things I that can also cause this problem

I dont mind the 'normal' kind of popping but my problem is way more than that, it is quite loud, almost like a gun going off.
so it's not a burble is more like a full backfire?
id say it's not sealed properly. those gaskets have to be used tight, and i mean tight!
Sealant also helps.
My car did this when i was running it straight out the res..... sounded like a truck, backfired every time i stepped off.
You can have any brew you want... as long as it's a Datsun / Corolla / What is that?
it's not so much a full backfire cos' there's no flames at all, just a loud "pop" noise. I'll try some sealant and hopefully it cures this, thanks for your help guys. :2thumbs:
sounds unrelated. check your tps![]()
what's tps?![]()
Throttle position sensor
the TPS runs with the ECU in air fuel mixture
the TPS setting could be wrong, so there could be excess fuel being left which is burned, which would cause the backfire
edit: visit here
It actually sounds like it is a full back fire due to a severe lack of back pressure. ...... But it could be the TPS.
