Thanks driftspec will definatly go for the full inspection.. I will inspect the rust and make sure it's not going to cut into my panel will also try to confirm that the flares will bolt onto the panel and not the flare itself
re: the ripping the car apart: probably a good idea, if you are in the mood for rust spotting, an you are going to keep the car, best do it now and get it sorted before it comes a bigger mess that what it already is.
Now I'm not a bodywork expert (who am I kidding, I'm not a total expert anyways) so it's probably best if someone else confirms this, but cutting away the rust, sealing it and bolting on flares would probably work. I think the main thing is having enough body work around the guard area to actually bolt the flares on; from a lot of the cars posted that have flared guards, the actual bodywork under the flare isn't too crash hot, because it doesn't have to be. Like I said, we probably need someone to confirm this but I have a feeling that's the best idea for you right now.

if I were you mate, id definetly buy andys shell and make one good car out of two. I wouild buy it myself but I have a serious lack of funds at the moment..
it's a really good shell and has already been resprayed, just needs a small amount of work on the roof. it would be the smartest thing to do to get your car upto scratch
damn man! that thing looks like it's been washed out to sea one or ten times.
let me know how much it ends up costing though cos I'm in a similar situation with mine (pretty bad rust in all the usual places, including my wallet).
properly! pft!
go to you local auto shop, buy some rust killer (de-oxidizer) cover the rust in it for 20min and the rust will be gone!
then use fiber glass or bog to fill it up! easy
or you can get it done properly and spend 1k as opposed to $100...

That's some crazy rust. I wouldn't have bought the car if it had that much rust.
However, if you want it to look decent, and don't care about the minor loss of structural strength, you can simply cut out the majority of it, give it a good treatment (use some POR15), fiberglass/bog it up and paint it! It is easy to do yourself and is very cheap...but takes a bit of time.
AE86 4AGE "Slowly but surely"
exactly... I think it'll be a much cheaper option than taking it to a pro and getting it done. and the structural loss won't be that much in areas like the guards...

Do what those guys say^^
Properly shmoperly. Get it done on the cheap and just drive it. If you really want a tidy one, you should buy that shell or a new Sprinter.
Toyota must have used shit metal in their AE86's. I had a much older Fiat that wasn't as rusty as your car!
If you're going to spend 3k on fixing rust and pull the car apart to find it you're better off getting a new shell. I'm not trying to sell you my stuff, I'm just speaking from experience, because fixing loads of rust is a pain in the ass.
For the rear guards, use front gaurds reversed..
Cut them out at the fold, and join the inner guard to the outer guard etc etc
then do a fine cut along the front fenders you have and weld them on, not only have you now fixed the rust, it's ready for an easy flare job and clearance for when you get that massive track
for the other spots, cut out the rust and just shape some metal and weld it in..
