A very basic rule of thumb has been: the greater the duration, the higher the rpm where max power will be made. The greater the lift the more torque. But a engine is very dynamic and weird things happen.

If I was going to rev it to 8500rpm I would go the bigger duration. But I don't have much experience with this.

how bigs ya buget cause higher the lift means valve train work will need to be done to handle it cbf going into it but you change one thing then you need to changge another thing & so on & so on
it aint as easy as putting in some 304 bump sticks and off you go ...... I wish lol

^ in other words he's saying if you go to a higher duration (to be safe say past 264in or ex) you'll need a valve lift kit, get bigger shims

...and you may need shim under bucket, or shimless buckets if you're looking to increase the lift. Throwing a shim at high revs will be a costly experience.
