    Front or Rear?

Brief Rundown for Replacement of front wheel bearings:

    1) Remove wheel

    2) Remove brake caliper

    3) Remove bearing cap. this can be done by directionally tapping it with a hammer. it doesn't matter if you dent it.

    4) Remove split pin / funny shaped washer thing.

    5) Remove nut which secures brake rotor / hub assembly to stub axle.

    6) Remove rotor / hub assembly.

Both the large and small bearing can now be removed. REMEMBER HOW THE BEARINGS AND WASHERS CAME OUT, CAUSE YOU MUST PUT THEM BACK IN THE SAME WAY.

    7) Thoroughly clean out the inside of the hub

    8) Put some new grease in the inside of the hub. (use High Temperature Bearing grease [HTB] for this job)

    9) Pack the new bearings with grease. This can be done a number of ways. My preferred method is to put some grease in the palm of you hand and sort of stroke the bearing across your hand to push the grease into the gap where the rollers are. It makes more sense when you actually do it.

    10) Reinstall the bearings and washers into the hub.

    11) Re-fit the rotor / hub assembly to the stub axle.

    12) **IMPORTANT** Do up the large nut which secures the assembly moderatley tight. THEN, begin to apply pressure as though you were going to undo the nut. Keep applying pressure (the nut will turn a bit) until it feels like the nut is just about to spin freely. this is difficult to explain but will become more obvious when you actually do it.

    13) Re-fit funny shaped washer and use a new split pin, dammit.

    14) Re-fit bearing cap

    15) Re-fit brake caliper

    16) Refit wheel.

Repeat process for the other side.

rear wheel bearings can't really be done without a rather large press. unless you are REALLY dodgy

    *thinks about it*

Yep, you'd be doing some downright dodgies to do the rear wheel bearings without a press

Stub axle could be damaged, or the bearings haven't been seated properly (more likely).
