    hello peps,
well i was told that this thread should be made!
not only because i am one of the main Culprits, but because
i am more then Certain that there are many if not every person on
this forum that has done something stupid in the pursuit of making
    their rides that much better!

so what i ask is that you post up what ever stupid things you have done...to your car.
so we can all reflect and compare our own stupidity!

    look forward to everyones posts.

    i'll start the ball rolling!

basically i tried to remove the tailgate by myself...f*#k that was a stupid idea....anyhow unbolted 1 strut...but the other
wouldn't budge...as i had rounded the bolt! so i did the next smartest thing...hacksaw it off...but now the bolt is
almost shattered...and i'm left red faced....i also lost a bet and shaved the middle section of my head!

    peace

Alright, since I suggested it.... Continuing from the other thread.

I still haven't gotten over forgetting to take out the rag I had stuffed down the front of the timing cover on my datsun L20B when I had taken off the timing gear. After reassembling everything and trying to start the car, I wondered why it would barely turnover before a strange pop noise. Look at engine to find the rocker cover had exploded out, but that just led on to other things. Once I had replaced the rocker cover and sorted out other issues related to the rag, I was ready to get it running at last. At last after a rebuild that had been completed in a North Carlton street outside my house it was ready to go. It was in the street after the council kicked me out of the rear lane where it had been previously.

So it starts, woo hoo, but then as I waited for the thermostat to kick in, I notice the water level in the radiator dropping, oh well top it up. But then it needed more and more........... So wondering where the hell it was all going whilst the engine kept running, all of sudden this milky fluid start pissing out of the breather and running down the gutter!

After stripping down the engine again (in the street), I finally discovered that an extra hole had been tapped into the front of the block by the previous owner of the engine. The head had so much taken off it that the OHC required the chain guide to be moved in substantially. Unfortunately when they did this they tapped into the water gallery..... The rag had moved the chain guide and broken whatever they had sealed this hole up with allowing the water to flow out and into the sump.....

So I was stupid to start with but at least it meant I could sort out the water jacket problem properly.

This was all a long time ago................. And I still wake at night in a cold sweat.

I spent about 3 days fiberglassing a ducktail wing into my hatch. Prior to painting I was removing the hatch by myself and forgot that I had no latch or anything preventing the hatch from sliding off the car once I had removed the last nut holding it to the roof.

So yer, the hatch fell off the car and smashed on the ground, and most of my work of fiberglassing all smashed and cracked.

I felt like killing someone that day.

Actually the second one was an EXA that was just supposed to be a parts car for the ET but the EXA had new really nice new paint and I swapped some parts for a nice interiour for it and then I had to buy a third pulsar wreck as a parts car for the EXA.
It wasn't such a bad car but first the engine blew, then the turbo blew then I'd had enough and sold it. I never did get the EXA running.
