i got introduced to drifting in 2004

went to a drift day and saw Josh Young handing nissan drivers their own ass in his 16v powered hachi

it was the cheapest way into the sport, i had a limited budget so the 86 was chosen

mind you in 2004 you could still buy a 4AC 86 for $500 off the side of the road

i was actually going to use an AE71 but on the way to look at it i found the above mentioned $500 86 in the same street

had one in 1998 and mate crashed it, then forgot about it and saw a option video in 2000 and saw little hatch going off and said I must have one. Thne I learned all about them and paid a packet for the last one. It was only after the 3rd ae86 that i saw takumi.

    To have fun!

I had a Galant VR4 before the AE86, and it was fun....and scarey but with the 4wd it made up for any slight mistakes in driving so you could be a lazy driver. I decided I needed a change of cars and a mate had an AE82 twincam, that's when I fell in love with the 4age and had to have one. I wanted a fun times RWD instead of FWD and a nice ae86 came up for a good price with a mystery LSD which is tight as a nun, Decent Koni Reds all round, and a 4age in TOP condition.

Now I'm finding myself shopping around for a second, they are fu%king addicting to drive....

the only reason i bought an ae71 was because of its cheapness and budget sliding. had i not come accross this car in time, id either have

    a) r31 5sp skyline (again for cheapness)
or b ) rt142 corona (second best cheapness)

i will never buy an ae86 (purely because of poor cost/fun ratio) and after driving a 4ac, i will never buy anything as slow.

    HAha, love this thread...

Loved 86s way before i even seen initial D...
Was mad about them since i was young, driving KE30s, loved the easy to work on, light, rwd stylez...

Then took the plunge into debt to get a mint 86... Then sold it due to peer pressure, worst mistake ever!

Was mad having a under dog style car, and owning people "around" through the twisties and the like...

Went to a bigger car (cressy) and couldnt wait to get back into something more applicable IE: GZE KE70

    Would never change again...

i got my sprinter cause i love driving and i thought the sprinter would be the perfect car for that and also its fairly cheap. and watching initial D, drift bible and going to watch drifting practice days it made me want one one even more.

and never thought of buying another car.

I first bought the AE86 Sprinter that i own now back in 1997 complete with standard 4AGE, my brother bought it off me, drove to Mackay in it hitting a wallaby on the way. He was too tight to fix it so he sold it on and the new owners installed a 4AGZE, haltech E6s, celica box, hilux diff and Simmons mags, they then sold it to another bloke who left it sit in his backyard for 18 months then bought a RX7, i was lucky enough to purchase it from him for the measly sum of $2000 and yeah i do feel lucky, all i have to do now is a bit of cancer surgery some tyres, intercooler, yeah it has a hairdryer. the reason i bought it, look at your own car and think about it
