4ac's are a non-interfering engine. so it shouldn't matter and should still turn free!
hey all i just bought another ae71 cheap as chips, because the engine wasn't running, i have had a fiddle round with a few things and noticed the cam wasn't turning even tho the pulleys where, the crank end of the timing belt was just spinning and wearing the timing belt down, i have taken the belt off and taken the plugs out and cant even turn the cam by hand or with leverage, wondering if this is a common problem and how it can be fixed, i have a new motor i can put in but don't want to if i don't have to!

think why it has a seized cam. what else could be wrong with it?
lost oil pressure? you shoudl be concerned about the crank bearings also
galleries blocked? oil not reaching the head?
if u have another engine throw it in, looks like ur about to open a can of worms if u ask me
i pulled the engine out yesterday and goin to attack it on the weekend coming up....why am i opening a can of worms?![]()
i think he means thats its not worth fixing a 4ac is it has problems, just pickup another cheap one or drop in your spare one.
also would have to be firly stuck if it isnt turning the cam gear, or there isnt enough tention on the belt or the belt is totaly shagged.
but it should be able to be turned by hand (with abit of effot)
when you open up a can of worms they all wriggle out and u can't get them back in
you may find that you have other hidden problems that can only be seen after fixing this first problem... and then another... and another etc.
= can of worms
I once bought an ae82 with this problem. It had broken the timing belt due to siezed cam, but had been running fine before. I removed the cam and found that some shit had got into one of the cam bearings and caused it to bind up and sieze. I managed to get it to free up but the motor was rattly as buggery afterward and only lasted a couple of days.
So from personal experience I would suggest that you don't bother just replace the motor with a wrecker special (I managed to get a fully recond one for $150 from Upullit).
