    hey all

ive currently chucked in a mini spooled t-18 diff, so i have that outta the way

just wondering what is a good 5 speed gear box i can use? as im using a turbo and would expect the 4ac box 2 shit itself no time

i've been told supra w58's are good but was just wondering what else i could use as these are pigs 2 find, and what i have 2 do

also heard celica box's r good 2 n lux gear box's but arent overly keen on the lux

and help on what to do and where to get it from would be appreciated :grinner:

    im in adelaide btw

    thanx

w55's are also very simerla to w58's and you can find them, biggest problem is finding a custom bellhousing.

also you do realise the the '4ac box' is t-50, basicly the same as what came in the jdm 86's. they will cop a fair bit of punishment from a 4age. if your sensible (aviod drag launchs) and have a resonable condition t-50 then it should last a while. just depends how you treat it. im yet to actually know personaly of anyone braking a t-50 (yes im sure there are plenty that have been).

i broke 2nd gear with stock jdm 4age (jdm t50) crappy box IMO

not hard to find custom bellhousing, u pay through the ass for em but, and getting a clutch is easy, just see dave at AJPS he knows all the right part numbers for a clutch to mate any 4age to any w series gearbox and good price too

a mate of mine had a small port and the box outlasted the motor (drifting....)

also a slightly diffrent version of t-50, i and a few others had a t-18 paddock basher that we rallyed the shit out of and broke the t-series

box didnt brake but it would jump out of second if you clutch kicked it too much

basically to my understanding u need this:

    w58 gearbox
    gearbox crossmember
    clutch
    custom w58 bellhousing
    1 peice tailshaft

awesome box behind 4ag(z,t)e will take a thrashing and is good for well over 200rwkw

    around 3-4k for conversion?

Any w series box (with the exception of the later w58 with the steel sandwich plate) should be of the same strength.

Hilux boxes, W57 (checked with toyota) are actually rumoured to be slightly stronger, using bigger bearings.

W58's are most commonly used, they were found in many 80's models toyota's, corona's, celica's, supra's, the list goes on.

actual w58 was only in the supra (correct me if im wrong) most of the others are w55 etc, as you have stated just as strong

    ok, my mistake.

but W55 are alot more common and cheaper, i was offered one a while back, kicking myself for not taking it.

from my personal experience these are tough.
