    Hey guys.

    Just a question.

I've been needing a new clutch for a while now, slowly getting around to it, while driving round tonite. Went to go back to 1st from second to do a u-turn and the pedal hit the floor and only had about 15mm from the floor to the bite point and felt really loose. After babying it to get moving and getting into 2nd it cleared itself up. Any idea on what the fuck just happened?

A better description of the event may help forum members give you an accurate troubleshooting guide.

Put simply, i have no idea what on earth happened by your account of it.
You can have any brew you want... as long as it's a Datsun / Corolla / What is that?

He went to change gear down from 2nd to 1st. Pushed the clutch in and it hit the floor. And the clutch only had 15mm from the floor till it hit the grabbing point....

    thats what i got.

Yerp. Even simpler. Clutch had nowhere near the pedal length it usualy does and felt really soft, untill I managed to get it back to second after performing the u-turn then the pedal felt fine again.

Clutch has done weird things before where the pedal will go soft, but hasn't happened in months and this is the first time it has done it this bad.

Negative on checking the slave. What should I look for exactly?

    Also quick question.
Anyone recommend a good exedy clutch for ae86 which is used for a daily but gets a flogging everytime it's driven.
Gathered a small list, any recommendations? I have my eye on just a heavy duty organic but I'm not sure if I wanna go something better.

You will see the slave cylinder on the right side of the gearbox (just behind the starter motor if you look from the engine bay). Get someone to push the clutch in and check the movement of the cylinder. Make sure it moves fine without resistance. Could it possibly be a heat issue with the hydraulic lines? Perhaps check its not getting hot at all.

As for the clutch, I have to say the Exedy Heavy Duty kit works extremely well for a daily driver that gets driven with enthusiasm, and would be good on track too. You should really replace the throw out bearing as well, which may improve your situation too. Some say a cushioned kit works fine in a daily, you may have to see for yourself on that one
