From Drum to Disc brake

Hi guys

I am going to swap over the rear end from ADM s serie (Drum) into a JDM T Serie (Disc). it is for a Sprinter
I have no idea about how people did their brake system in the rear end.... change from Drum to Disc

Do the rear Disc brakes need brake fluid which supply from the front brake master cylinder, or no need..???? :huh:
And can the Handbrake cable be swap over between the two Series?

I couldnt find a thread on it...How do you guys do it???

I would suggest that you would have to have the handbrake cable from the JDM, I believe that the ADM one will be a little bit too long. YOu can fix this with 10mm worth of spacing at the handbrake lever. The disks will be fed from the same hydraulic system as the current drums, though I am unsure of whether the existing hoses will reach properly. Otherwise, buy new brake hose for the rear.

In terms of doing it, just take out everything in the rear end until you can take the diff/axle housing out, and then replace in reverse. Don't forget to fill up and bleed your brakes once you've finished. If you have a search on toymods I'm sure I've seen a write up there.

You'll also need the jap prop valve, which you can get from toyota or AJPS.

You need a T18 rear half of tailshaft, buy the correct handbrake cables that connect to the calipers, get the small cable that actually fits to the handbrake lever out of a SV11 camry.

Unbolt the rear links and tailshaft and remove the s series, bolt in the T series and the rear half of the tailshaft from the T18. Change the oil in the diff.

Connect the rear brake hose to the diff (which is the same as for the T series), rebuild your calipers and install the correct brake proportioning valve which sits under the brake master cylinder.

Bleed brakes and away you go.

refine your search. if you don't know that disc brakes require brake fluid then you probably shouldn't be doing the swap yourself. something like this, brakes, rear driveline, handbrake, rear suspension shouldn't be taken lightly there are huge safety issues involved

Yes. I spent a lot of time under various Toyota's at pickapart looking for one the right length and the SV11 is spot on if you are using the proper rear cables.

The old 'space up the original ADM cable with nuts' routine was getting on my nerves.

what about the residual pressure valve?
they're usually mounted into the master cylinder rear line out on most cars.

or are they mounted in the proportioners on corollas?

in the prop valves, im pretty sure. when i did mine i saw nothing else unless its in the tee on the diff, which i doubt.

ur right dude there is nothing up the rear end.if u guys need some ideas check out my members ride,ive dont the rear end conversion with success,just gotta change the bridge up the front at the hand brake,thanks for the advise parrot.is the sv11 celica the old square shape or the round shape pop up lights???RWD or FWD
