I can say about your brakes because your in a different state but here in vic the law says increase your power 1.6x and you need to upgrade
which ford diff are we talking about? if it has a 9 in it I will hurt you
I've been searching through the forums for a while now and just wanted to know if a brake upgrade is totally neccessary to get a mod plate? The car is a KE70 and the engine going in is a sr20det.
I realise it would be the safe way to go and I will eventually upgrade, just wondering if it is needed or not?
And can anyone recommend a place in SE Brisbane that will do the mod plates needed and arough price?
Cheers
Also forgot to add has anyone heard of a ford diff being used in a ke70? Worth while?

If you don't upgrade your brakes, you're bound to get yourself into trouble. My modified 4K could get them fading in no time.
You may want to look into the legality of an SR20DET in a KE70. I'm pretty sure it isn't legal here in QLD anymore since the law changes that apply to cars that are under 1 tonne.
Mine is fully engineered here in nsw
ive got a sr in a sprinter in nsw an my enginer said i have to have vented rotors on the front an disk brakes on the rear. not sure about qld should just go to an enginer an ask what your aloud to do
I just sent off an email to Dept of Transport but I'm pretty sure they are still legal in KE70's in Qld. The diff he mentioned was a EB (or newer) Ford Falcon XR6 diff
Instead of making a new thread I thought I'd just add onto this one
I'm still having trouble deciding on what brakes to go with. I have the SR20 half-cut which came with the brakes etc. but the main thing stopping me putting them on is that I won't be able to use the standard corolla 13" rims anymore..
To most people who do this it doesn't really bother them but I plan on keeping it stock looking for a while. Also wanted to have them on the rear ofcourse but I'm not sure which axle/diff to go with the will allow me to fit the 13"'s
If anyone can help me I would appreciate it greatly![]()
forget the 13's. FFS put the s13 brakes on.. UR GONNA NEED THEM![]()
just go a nice set of stocko 14" toyota alloys (or steelies with hubcaps)
but dont skimp on the brakes just coz u want 13's.
trust me sr20 Ke70's NEED the brakes. ive had "moments" in mine
and forget the ebxr6 ford diff... rather heavy and not nearly as strong as a 9 inch... but the 9 inch is overkill.
just go a hilux lsd conversion, shortened and weld on the 4 link mounts.
thats what ill be doing to mine very, very shortly. im so over changing snapped axles and welding centres

Yeh you are probably right it would be the smarter way to go.
So something like this then?
How much do lsd's for hilux/hiaces cost roughly and where's the best place to buy from? Also best place to find a set of 14" steelies?
just get ma61 wheels. look stockish but u can get them in good offsets every now and again. very factory looking.
