I When I had one I was also told against putting it on for the same reason of it cracking easily when it opens and closed. another way to put it on is to rivet it on , this wont look as good but it gets the job done
My 8-6 is as i speak in the panel shop getting the rust sorted out, whilst its in there i wanted to get the rear wing moulded in with fibreglass and painted silver.
The fibreglass guy the panel shop uses doesnt want to do it because he said it will crack very quickly due to the vibrations caused by the boot being opened and closed all the time..?u reckon?
That is wierd because Jae86? has his moulded in and a few others ive seen, im just wondering how theres is going and how theirs was done like fibreglass or bog?
what do people think of that happening?
Would i be better off just fitting it back on and getting it painted?but it doesnt fit right IMO!how do most people do theirs?because mines only self tapper screws.
NEED URGENT HELP AS I WOULD LIKE TO GET THIS SORTED WHILST ITS IN THERE!!
Please PM me your thoughts....

Rust is a way of life
yeah thats one of my options but rivots would leak water into the boot recess wouldn't they?beau yates has his rivoted on, but his is a race/drift car. mines a clean street car and really wanted it to be smooth...bah!
also the one thats on my car was on there since i got the car. and i dont think it fits properly (and is screwed down with self tappers  )
apparently the streeter by streeter rear wing fits better/properly. that may be an another option, sell mine and get his one and him to fit it, but does anyone know what he charges?or better still have his number handy?
HELP IM STILL SOO CONFUSED!
rivet it on so it doesnt flew then glass it on, come to mine when you get your car back and my mate across the road will look at it, he will do it for you for a descent price, but u will have to take it to a painter to get colour matched and he can spray it if you like too
mines been glassed on and has lasted a year so far, with all the bumping from stiff sus and a hot summer. Its not gonna come off anytime soon, just dont let anyone open the boot by the ducktail!! one of my stupid mates did that, luckily nothing happened. oh an i also hardly use the boot anyway.
edit: mine cost me 700 to do, luckily i was away for a while casue it was a bigger job than inteded, due to glue in the window
I reckon someone is saying BS. Although smart idea, panel shops try to stick away from fibreglass
BUT it should easily be possible. Glass the whole thing down thorougly, sand it back to get the shape, and then bog it a few times + sanding to get it perfecto
Finish with spray putty/primer filler, put on heaps 5-6 coats of it, dust on some guide coat, and go crazy with a block sander
Should have it looking as straight, and as "OEM" as the boot itselfGoodluck with it all champ!
Its simple
Sand the surface of the boot so the fibreglass has something to stick to
Tech screw/pop rivet it in
Then lay fibreglass over the screws and on all corners of the wing
Then sand it down flush and use little bog if need be
If your fibreglasser is competent enough it should be a hard job
It's the same process and over panels etc
Just don't hang off it and you won't be in any trouble
I've just done this to my car and it turned out great...accept for a day before paiting I went to remove the hatch from the car and slipped and dropped the entire hatch onto the ducktail
It didnt turn out too bad but there is a minor crack on one side.
