yeah checked out those wade cams, sounds good. Yea i was thinking around the 280-288 degree mark and 9.0ml lift. Of course i will upgrade the vavle springs, but will i have to change valves,buckets and shims like 741 said? Dont think im that fussed if i lose the VVti.

I see no reason why the buckets would have to be changed, the shims might need a bit of adjustment to get the clearences right with any cam though.

Are you just going to drop 280 degree cams into a stock motor (std bottom end, rods, pistons etc)? Then you will have upgrade other internals to get the most out of said camshafts. Cams don't = max horsepower if they are not part of a comprehensive build. NA Horsepower is much more time, labour and $ expensive than other avenues i.e. super\turbo charging or even increasing displacement\engine conversion.
i will be running a/m cams, forged pistons, forged rods, forged crank and stronger bolts and maybe better bearings if i can find any.
will also be running coil packs and a haltech.. on a 7age 20v. do you think it will go any better?
Yes. better than what? definately better then if you had only dropped cams in it. What I'm trying to say it's not as straight forward as fitting big camshafts and bingo! big horsepower. It's still only a 1.6l and as it gets increasing modified every HP gets harder to extract as you approach 185-190hp especially getting to the magical 200hp.
Personally, i would only upgrade cams in a 20v if it was to be a significant build. KFC spec, "The Works".
Vvti is a wonderful thing, that fills most with happiness and awe at the mystique that is toyota.
