coil problems

[Madgarbage]

hey guys, on the way to archerfeild last night my car shit it'self, i wasnt thrashing it just normal grann spec, it lost all power and just died, i got it towed home in the morning and tried to find the problem, so i got the multimetre out and heres what i found

primary coil = 1.5 ohms

secondry coil = 12k ohms

primary voltage = 6 volts

#note its a 4ac if that helps#



there is no spark from the coil, i have no idea whats wrong with it because the coil looks brand new as do all my spark plugs, if this has happend to anyone and could shed some light i would be truly greatful as i really need my car and have no other means of transport

the resistances sound right,

first check all fuses, should be an engine fuse or ignition fuse check them.

check wires to and from the coil, corosion/loose,

pull the dizzy cap off and check the points,
(gf's car had the rubbing block on teh points break off and same deal no spark)

these are just a starting point,

well all the resistances look good and the voltage is alright, time to check signal, double check the coil by removing the coil wire(one to the dizzy), put it near vehicle earth(a bolt or something) and earth out the coil quickly, it should spark when the earth is removed.
if not, coil or lead is stuffed, if it does then it's time to start looking at points probably not opening.
