have you tried pluging a standard silvertop ecu into it
Hey peoples,
i have purchased a cheap corolla with a 20V 4age motor.
it was once running an entire '97 Ae111 blacktop engine, ecu, and gearbox however the previous owner killed the old blacktop bottom end, and since blacktop engines are hard to find, it was replaced with an ae101 silvertop bottom end.
it still runs the ae111 ecu, with blacktop head obviously. the engine seems run mechanically quite well, although there seems to be an issue with the ignition timing, it seems to not produce any power between 3-5,000 rpm, and hesitates in this rev range.
would the change in compression from the silvertop/blacktop combination affect the factory ignition timing curve on the ae111 ecu?
all other wiring has been double/triple checked, and when advancing the ignition timing it is possible to get the engine to move through that 3-5k rev range easier, however it does ping rather badly.
Has anyone else performed this conversion with this combination of hardware with any success?
any help greatly appreciated ..
thanks,
Chris
have you tried pluging a standard silvertop ecu into it
stock silvertop ecu runs AFM not MAP sensor, there shoudlnt be any problem in the ecu itself, how does it go up higheer in the rev range??? check if the vvt is working or it may even be stuck on for some reason, if its stuck on it means that the inlet cam is slightly advanced therefore would explain the pinging if u have the timing right up
try unplugging the VVT solenoid and see how it goes then, chances are it should run good all over the rev range but will be lacking power up high
if you dont know where the solenoid is, look at the motor from the drivers side of the car looking at the motor from front to back, there will be a plug on the right hand side just above and just forward of the exhaust manifold
if you have any problams finding it swing me a PM and ill take a pic of mine for you
hope i helped, brendan
hey this may sound very stupid, but did it run an old K & N air filter?
because i had a similar problem with my bigport, but i didnt change no bottom end, but seeing as you bought it with a blown bottom end? it could be a metal cap sort of thing that gets sucked into just infront of the throttle body, its a cap from the top of the air filter and ends up doing the same thing... might not be it, but you never know.
cheers, issa.
ps i know it sounds stupid, but it does happen.
1982 KE70 - Red - Meshies - Madhouse Lip - Lowered - Custom plates (KE70) - and much more to come !!!!
that very odd that it now pings seeing it has now a significantly lower compression ratio
30kw club
3-5k is where shit starts happenin with vvt so i recon its that dude
unplug the solenoid
