hi guys, well as we all no, our cars are old and they creak and make strange noises..

ive got one thats a little weird.. basically it comes and goes, tends to be more prevalent on bumpy roads and when im in a gear too high (ie in 4th when i should be in 3rd etc). it comes from the area behind the gearbox (so the tailshaft/under the centre console type area)
its a weird knocking noise that i originally thought was just the pax seat wobbling, but it isnt. ive looked underneath but cant seem to see any areas of contact or anything loose..

    any ideas?

Could be your exahaust is hitting the frame underneath, i have that in my 71 when the is kicking to the right it will knock just under the passanger seat. It could be doing this on yours just after where the cat is.

Other than that maybe a bearing or something in your tailshaft?

    ^^^^^ Is the answer coming?

I have an extremely similar problem but its when i go over bumps, it feels like something is trying to bash through the bottom of the car <_<

The kind of noise you prepare for coming up to every bump.

Sorry to hijack but i think its probably the same problem.

oh and my car is fairly low.

    Cheers

From the position of the noise you are describing it sounds to me as if your tail shaft centre bearing is on the way out.

Check the condition of the rubber around the bearing.

most of the time the rear shocker is hittting the body, which will make that noise too

u can get someone sit at the back seat, and get off the plastic cone cover. go over bump and see the shocker hit or not
