noone can help?
im not the first person to put the s13 crossmember in surely!
did a quick search but came up with nothing.
so i put an s13 crossmember into the ae71, just need to sort out the rack to steering shaft situation.
ive heard r34's have a smaller shaft end that can go on the s13 rack and corolla shaft, but when i checked one out at a wreckers it wasnt the case.
what have people done? im tempted to press one end of each uni and weld the s13 half onto the corolla spider gear but id rather do something a little less dodgy.

Simon should be able to help. I would get part of the Toyota uni that has the spline and weld it to a S1x one.
would you guys believe i used an off the shelf nissan uni?? now this is where it gets tricky as i dont know what it was.
I went to a wreaker i usually go as i needed something that would fit the nissan rack and toyota shaft.... and went through all the nissan racks there and what do ya know, there was one on there with the exact dimensions and measurements that i needed... the rack had R34 written on it. however im now led to believe that it wasnt a 34 rack.
either way i got lucky. i suggest you do this, or do what matt said and cut and shut.
yeah mate i remember speaking to you about it last year some time.
i went to a wrecker and pulled one of an R34 myself, it was definately different in this case.
im in the process of sorting it now. what i did today was press out the bottom half that connects to the cross joint on both uni's, then i found that they are the same length/width only the bearing diameter on the s31 side is smaller. so tomorrow when i find the right sized drill bit (15.5mm) ill drill out the s13 side and press the corolla bearings into it on the cross joint. then ill just tack it to be sure. i think that should be relaticely un-bodgy. considering it wont be under too much stress with the power steering.
power steering or not, its still under the same stresses. Im not saying what you propose is dodgy, as its what i was going to do if i couldnt find anything to suit. Just make sure that its done 100%.
trust me you dont want a steering component letting go lol
i think it will be under slightly less stress because you dont need to input as much force down the shaft to turn the rack as when its un-assisted.
having said that i did it yesterday and i think it turned out good. i pressed the new end on and it was a nice fit, if anything the movement is a little tight even though i put some new grease in it, but i think it will free up.
