Thread: Racing Harness legal on the road ?

    Hey all.
Couldn't find a thread on this, if there is one then please point me in the right direction.

Just got pulled over by the cops - Lights, Sirens and all.
This cop starts by saying "Where's the fire" and then says "So, You are used to getting in trouble with the police" <_< What the! ???
Now I generally have a great deal of respect for the police - they are just doing their job but this guy had an attitude and was being a prick.

Aparently I went round the round about too quick. We argued about that for about 5 mins and then he started going over the car.
He was determined to get me for something. He went right over the car - bonnet up and everything. He listed the roll cage and seats and steering wheel etc and I was laughing cos I had plates for everything which made him more angry.

After the girl cop had run my plates and come back to the car she said "let this guy get back home to have his pizza" but noooo he was pissed.
In the end he tells me that the racing harnesses are illegal and that I have to have them removed and that I have to bring the car back to the police station in one week for inspection.

    1. Is the Racing Harness illegal if you aren't wearing it? I see rally drivers with them installed all the time on the road. They just push them out of the way and use the normal seat belt on the road.

    2. Does he have the authority to ask me to bring the car to a police station for inspection ?

    Thanks for any input.

in W.A anyway you have have racing harnes but you must have your adr seat belt for normal use.
with rally cars there on a special license.
cops are cunts and can do what they wont.

Not sure what the laws are in QLD, but as far as I now harnesses ARE legal if they are made to comply with ADR (as some do i.e. RPM, but check Willans, TRS, Sabelt) and they are fitted correctly. And you are not to have rear passengers in the car if you're using them - guessing your car would be mod plated as a 2 seater? so should be ok.

what shits me is that are essentially punishing you for being too safe!

they can ask for you to come back if they are D.O.T. but if you were using your normal seat belt there shouldnt be a problem.

but at the end of the day they are right so just do what he says to stay out of trouble even tho he is a A hole

harnesses arent legal as there is no play in them. unlike a normal seat belt which moves then locks.
i cant think of words or anything right now cause its too late. but yea. haha.

which cops in moray was it glen??? i had one on a moto be quite a dick to me but normally don get any trouble in moray anymore....but i guess if the harnesses are adr approved like teh monza for example being adr approved it should mean that you can use them for everyday driving. but if not in use and the are jus there its the same as say having a seat or rims with fked tyres in the boot for transport its not in use and to say its illegal is jus stupid ppl would jus laugh but i dont no sounds a bit iffy cheers

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (Wooley @ Nov 9 2007, 10:14 PM) </div>Why do they make ADR approved harnesses then? Why bother if they're going to be completely illegal anyways?

As stated before, harnesses are legal as long as they appear to be safely bolted down, are ADR approved etc..

if you're not using it its perfectly legal, as long as its ADR approved..

i'm 90% sure. Ring the Queensland Transport Modifications number and ask them, that way you have some ammunition against the evil pig scum (i respect cops (like his partner) but that doesn't mean they're allowed to be dickheads)
