Well I browsed the AE72s, KE70 members ride sub-forum, and didnt find a 2-door AE72, or one with a 1.8 engine. I was just curious if its the fact that you guys didnt get this model, or if its just that you prefer 4-doors. o_O..?
Some history on our AE72s. One of the most popular cars in P.Rican history. they sold like crazy, mostly for their cheap price, good fuel economy, sportiness and ruggedness. the only cars ever to match its sales success were the AE86 and later on the Mitsubishi Mirage Technica. The former wasnt as popular due to its relative lack of power and frailness(sorry AE86 owners but its true, hachis cant take a hit to the bumper as well as AE72s), and the latter..well lets just say its FF.
    Heres what they look like:

we also had 3-door liftbacks, 5-door wagons, 4-door sedans, 2-door notch backs (like a coupe but kinda longer and the c-pillars different)

This model of the AE72 comes with a 3T-C 1.8 engine, that even though it produced roughly 75 hp, it had more than enough torque to compensate. A higher trim, badged SR5 included a LSD and a 1.8 twincam engine (dont know the code for it). The AE72, along with the AE82 (Starlet) became seriously popular thanks to their modded versions in the drag strip. Seen here:

yes, this is the type of motor sports we enjoy. nothing but straight drag strips, no actual race courses. well on a happier note, i believe we still hold the record for fastest rotary-based 1/4 mile time. world wide. will have to confirm that later on. Anyways, was there an Aus spec 2-door AE72? if there was, im pretty sure its kick ass. you guys get all the best engines. Also, here are some pics of other corollas popular on the island.

    p.s. Wikipedia rocks.

Thats why the Corolla brand is one of the most popular models of all time Australia is pretty much the same with reasons why Corollas are chosen, I work next to a main road in a suburban town, and I can easily see 10 KE70s and AE71s without even trying, countless more Corollas of other models too

I don't think we ever got the KE72, I know we had the TE72 T-18, which is longer than the KE72 pictured, and a much different design

Pretty much it was the KE/AE 70s and 71s that were sold here for the same reasons you list above, I think the reason the KE72 was not sold was because of the T-18 - anyone confirm this?

BTW the twin-cam engine was probably a 2T-G variant. Nice motors they are too

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (driftspec @ Nov 13 2007, 10:53 PM) </div>if im not mistaken, we have those, and theyre, say..kinda like a mid-size coupe, instead of a compact coupe. Everything changes after the b-pillar and theres a slight change in tail lights, I think the wheel base is a couple of inches longer and you get a lot more trunk (boot) space. beautiful cars :2thumbs:

do you mind posting a pic of one?
