I bought a angle grinder for $19.95 and removed the gas strut. The shell is well and truely stipped now.

The engine will be a 4A of some sort. No wild modifications are planned. Just a stock AE86 with bolt ons from e-bay. I want the car to be eligible for a CAMS speed event sometime in the future. (Targa, Improved Production, Drift, Hill climb etc). So forget what engine and little bits for now, I need to get the shell right. I need a CAMS style roll cage. And I am not going to cut the firewall or do anything silly that is not reversable back to stock. (Except the rear seat brackets are gone). And apart from the roll cage, more components will be removed rather than added.

If you knew the recent Skate/Surf shop called Ozone in Hobart, there was a BMX frame in the front window called "Clown Bikes DVDA". I built that frame. I built a handfull of custom BMX/Freestyle frames a few years ago (plus wheels, hubs etc). Some of them were for semi well know riders in USA. I would have to google their names now to see if they were famous, I'm out of that scean now.

Unfortunately part of the public now think all AE86's can drift at the drop of a hat. But in some situations it can be fairly hard, and results in a dishonourable spin. I need some help to meet the new standard, and it's not coming from a turbo. It's time for a stiff chassis, which will mostly come from a roll cage.

My welding looked really bad to start will, but it's coming back to me.

It is too hard to get all the seam sealer and paint off, and this is not good to weld over.

    I got my Corolla sideways.

I cleaned the whole underside with petrol and used a MIG welder to add weld along all the chassis rails.

wow thats about as sideways as you can go, adm, jdm all the same .
Stiff chassis are scarey in the wet even an under powerd car can catch you by supprize.
have you given a time on the build or just gonna play when you have time.

Thanks. I will need some tips on spray painting very shortly.

As for the stiff chassis, my springs will be about 6.7kg/mm front, 4.8kg/mm rear. Which should be about right for most situations. Plus standard anti-roll bars. And quality shocks with roadworthy tyres should take care of it.
