yea spose ur right, just wanted to see if anyone with time/skill has done it
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (Johnny_08 @ Dec 4 2007, 08:34 PM) </div>Yeah well people will cut you off, pull out in front of you, Animals will run out in front of you every now and then so deal with it. ABS in a Ae86 will cost you shit loads.
Piping.
ABS unit.
Sensors.
Toothed signal wheels.
Wiring.
Not worth the effort in my books but hey don't let any one stop you if you want it that bad.

learn to drive!
i hit a guy a while ago (who appeared in front of me) and ABS would not have made shit all difference
If you wanted to, installing ABS in a AE86 would not be that hard. The units can be got cheap if drifters are removing them. You get to keep your original master cylinder and brakes. The ABS unit goes anywhere in the engine bay you want. You need the wheels speed sensors of course, which maybe the hardest bit to mount. Not too hard, its just very few people want it. You could turn it off with a switch if that's what you wanted.
mounting those toothed wheels might be very hard indeed...
30kw club
mounting toothed wheels, and calibrating it to work properly would be a bitch, its not worth it, practise ur braking and upgrade the brakes, just think bout it like this, u need an abs unit, a control unit for the abs, u need to modify hubs for the speed sensors, u need to wire it all, u need to fabricate lines, and then it still might not work right. its just not worth the money
Im gonna throw a noob comment in and say, doesn't the ABS get calibrated to dry road conditions?
Therefore wouldn't it still lock up in the wet due to being set for a grippier surface and more force needed to activate it?
And if this is so wouldn't you technically have half braking power in the dry if its set for the wet?
Or have I had my head under a rock for a few years in regards to ABS technology?
We all stuff up at times due to ourselves or others poor driving or random circumstances.
You can be the best driver in the world, does that mean the idiot in the other car knows that and wont pull out infront of you?
Hell no...
trust no-one, drive slower and look after YOUR car, sounds like your boss can't drive either.

Pretty sure with an attitude like that you may be the problem
I'm pretty sure ABS relies on the speed of the wheel. If the wheel stops (ie locked up) no matter the conditions, it triggers the system to release pressure momentarily to get the wheel moving again and give you grip (no locked wheel). Pretty simplistic way of describing it, but I'm pretty sure thats how it all works.
It probably can be done, its just a matter of who would do it for you. However, if its for the reason if improving braking efficiency and avoiding those situations, there are plenty of other paths to look at before you look at something that could be as expensive as a custom ABS setup. Larger brakes, tyres, pressures etc will all help. Defensive driving skills are always a good thing to have. Not having a go at you (certainly not doubting your experience), but there's a few other things to look at if its just improving braking or avoiding those incidents.
Should mention too: don't let this stop you, if you want to do and can find someone that can help get it going, don't be afraid to do it!![]()
4AGE is here! Cheers 44GTE and Anthony for your help! http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/fo...ad.php?t=10384

What am I doing right now? Twitter me!
well it was merely a suggestion, and i dont really have the finances right now to do it, nor screw arround and pretend to know what im doingwell my brakes are good, i guess, for the car (jap slotted, F/R). would different pads be considered? also yes, i would love to do an advanced driving course on a wet track (or the like), i have yet to see the limits of the car in the wet, it just seems to catch me out at random times
