well what can i say, yes its bullshit but with high demand comes high price. when i bought my 1st sprinter nobody knew about them or drifting or inital d for that matter, everything was cheap. then drifting and inital d came out and suddenly everyone wanted a sprinter pushing the price up and up, then when people couldnt get a sprinter cheap anymore they went for the next best thing, ke70/ae70's ect and in turn the price for these will go up as demand for them increases

That made me lol in real life. Our thursday night cruises are populated by so many commodores and falcons these days that we now refer to it as boat racing. Alas, all of the Skyline/Silvia/etc owners in my group have lost their licences or sold the car in fear of killing themselves after hairy experiences. Mind you, I have one mate with a give or take stock manual white VN, yeah only the V6 version, and honestly I think he'd put a lot of people on here to shame. God damn that boy can drive.

    Vote with your feet...

The best way to lower prices is DONT PAY BIG BUCKS, because once some fuckbrain gets $6k for a stock AE86, everyone else will be wanting to get that much too.

    This is Takumi Tax

Nope, the REAL takumi tax is due to the inflated price of AE86's in japan. i dont think anyone has ever purchased a ke70 from a japanese auction. and takumi never drove one. . . .

The reason sprinters cost so much in japan is because the japs want them more than us, and the love they have for the last rwd corolla. Takumi just made it a bit worse.

All the sprinters we get for customers are 8-12k, quite a bit considering you can buy an aristo for less!

PS: ive seeen plenty of ke70's for $1500 and less, just keep looking champ.

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (Big_Car_Killa @ Dec 11 2007, 02:58 PM) </div>Dude its nothing special about sprinters in Japan. Nowadays I couldn't buy a HR31 coupe in Japan for $5k more than I paid for mine, because that would still be getting a shitter there. Old cars, that were popular when new, are worth $$$$ in Japan, plain and simple.

But no way is Japanese auction price the reason small xExx chassis toyotas are pricing up here, its supply, demand, and wankers with mum and dad's money.
When I was 18 and considering a sprinter, at the end of the 90's, there would be 4-5 every week in the tradingpost for minimum $400-1000 maximum. Even then hot4s was talking them up with their Denzo-advertising drift crap every issue, not to mention on average one every couple of months in FF&R (normally GZE or 20v) ...
They're older, and harder to find now as its been almost another decade. Same for most older cars of that sort really, even geminis, escorts etc have gone through the roof. Try and find a useable escort project car for even top sprinter money!

KE70s is definitely fuckwit 16 year olds getting mummy and daddy to pay $3k for their shitbox with grand dreams of becoming a DK, driving base prices up.

Fact is you want to play, you have to pay.

If you want it now, it costs $$$$. If you hunt around, wait and buy when the right one comes up, maybe $$$.

well it has to do with demand and supply.

the 86 is a rather old car which ceased production 20 years ago. this means that the amount of 86s left will only decrease, and that availability will be more limited in future years, thus people will raise prices. ever since initial D became popular outside of japan, many people have sought AE86s more actively than before. this exponential increase in demand added to the constant decrease of supply results in the fabled but true "Takumi tax".

if you want to escape the effects of it, come to puerto rico(where only 5% of the hachi driving community actually knows they are driving an ae86), or the states. NEVER BUY ONLINE. people online fish for ricers and initial d freaks, and therefor will always have bloated prices.
