<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (steroidchickens @ Dec 14 2007, 09:26 PM) </div>doesnt sound like the problems mentioned is due to the CAs constant oil return isues. missfiring and tapping on startup.

somehow i think paulies shit CA is dying due to lack of maintnence rather than being a shit engine.
although i do know a couple of 4ages that have not been serviced for 50,000kms so if your friend is not wanting to maintain an engine maybe a 4age is for him

Exactly the point that I'm trying to make! Power is all good but if it only lasts 20,000 of thrashing then whats the point? Im not completely against SR's, they may be a bit more expensive but at least they are decent motors to start with. For exxample just look at japan, everyone is literally throwing away CA parts, all the focus has been on the SR, always as it just that much better, they used it for how many years across heaps of different models didn't they? Also id definately say no matter how the ca was mounted (or sr) the extra capacity would equal a heavier package.

this thread started out as ca18det a worthwile conversion not is sr20 a worthwhile conversion.

in standard form ca18det are good for around 150rwkw with suporting mods.
sr20det is good for around 180rwkw also with suporting mods. both engines have good points and bad points. ( this argument has been going on for years not,not going into that now)

the reason people throw out ca18dets is in a silvia 150rwkw is not enough power. sr20 conversion is more worth while
in a hachi it is a different story.
150rwkw is plenty for a BUDGET conversion.

over this topic as i will never win against 3500 toyota owners

The way I see it when I look at the people that drive Silvia's/180's with CA's... They most of the time always end up getting an SR. Ive never really seen an SR fail at the track but have always seen problems with CA's eventually having the last puff. To have a CA reliable you really need to spend some money on it. You can grab a stock SR and have it reliable for a long time, if you look after it.

Im currently putting an SR into my AE86 (or soon to be). If CA wasn't so unreliable I would have taken that option as there is bolt in parts for it and less custom.

    Anyway. Enough ranting.
