looks the goods! what an awesome daughter!!!
Guys i thought i would put up a few pics of where my car is up to.
My plan when i started to build this car was to do as much myself as possible or use suppliers that i utilize through my workshop.
Along with the help of some top mates.
There is great pleasure in building a car yourself and racing it with success, as opposed to walking in with an open chequebook and saying build me a race car.
Although the car when it last hit the track was fairly mild compared to now I still had better than expected success with it.
I'm sure the new mods won't be a world beater but it should be developed into a pretty quick car. A lot of good bits are in there now or on there way.
I wanted a clean rwd lightweight car to build up, i was thinking escort or gemini but were too old and rusty, then remembered my mate had this car and mentioned he wanted to sell it.
The car was bought Early in '04 for $2000 it was a very clean example with 1 20c sized piece of surface rust, it also come with a low mileage RWD 4age, button clutch, extractors ( Gilly is now the proud owner of them) and a set of IMO ugly 15's.
first up was the bolt in cage from Bond motorsport. It is a good cage but i would still like to cut it out and rework it.
then prep for paint using some cheap labour, see pic of daughter with wet and dry in action.
I had some machine work done on the engine, the head was ported similar to an Atlantic engine thanks to a good mate who had just bought a Formula Atlantic car from America.
The bottom end was pretty std really and copped a flogging, can't bet a good 4ag. carbs were twin 40mm webbers - It's at this point that i must thank EBAY for a lot of parts supplied. lol a lynx manifold and the best linkage setup iv'e seen on carbs- from Repco, Once angain these now reside on Gilly's bent? ride.
The second hand button clutch was used and a std T50- no problems with the box at all. If you continually break a T50 with a 4ag learn how to change gear properly ;p
A t series diff worked great, cant remember the ratio Brendan would know though.
Brakes were R31 Skyline front rotors and calipers with EBC Green stuff pads, Rear was jdm rotors with pintara u13 calipers and i think bendix std pads. i made up the caliper mounts out of 6mm plate steel.
Springs Rear cut HD sprinter springs 185pound and front i made my own coil overs 250pound onto corona struts.
So all in all a relative std car, at this point it owed me about $5000
It was certainly quick enough for what it was and I got 2nd or 3rd? in the '06 Qld State championship
looks the goods! what an awesome daughter!!!
ummm car looks a lot different to this now you tease!!!! like 400000 x hotter
i thought nike only used child labour
carbs are indeed on my now freshly bent ride (you have first dibs Jase, looks like a pull apart job)
Clemo, good to see you have the whole family involved in the build up, hows the 3SGE going
Look forward to catching up again at round 1 in march
Chris O
So the re build started, i thought of doing an all out 4age or 7age and in hindsight maby i should have. but I thought 3sge is the engine for me. I had driven a mates KE55? with a 3sg and it was fast for what it was.
So i got a genIII 3sge and had some machine work done and fitted some nice bits, It's no where close to the power i want yet but its a great starting point. i expect about 220 engine HP with some great torque.
later on i will get hold of a beams engine and build a serious engine.
Gearbox is an Altezza 6 speed with 1st gear knocked out A( only allowed 5 speed in early model IPRA)
clutch and flywheel were from Clutch Industries via Repco.
Now a lot of the fabrication was taken up a notch or 2 with the help of an old Mate of Mine Jason Creighton. for those of you who have seen his work it is amazing, he hand made the inlet manifold, throttle linkages, shafts, airbox, and seam welded the engine bay. + lots more.
We wired in the Motec M4 ourselves,
Brendan helped out with rewiring the rest of the car after we stripped the entire loom to save weight. + many other od jobs around the car. :2thumbs:
A lot of work has taken place over the last 12 months that it's been off the track including upgrading the brakes to r32-r33 front and rear calipers 300zx front rotors and cressida rear rotors. repainting the interior.
My latest purchace was a spare 3sge same generation but may be a little bit more potent and a real nice BDG 4 stage dry sump setup
at this stage the car is 99% complete and should be ready for the first meeting at Warwick on the first weekend of March.
I would like to thank some mates that have helped along the way
Jason Creighton- Fabrication and general Guru
Ben Thomas- Pit crew and genrally good bloke
Reg Underhill- Stage 1 of the build and trailer build
Brendan Johnson- pisshead LOL nah he puts in Tons of hours.
Greg Craig and Chris O'Shanessy for Tech advice.
+ more Thanks heaps
more info and pics to follow after i get back to work.
Thanks Eggs man, my whole family is pretty awesome, letting me go racing and spend all the time at work etc.
Chris 3SG going great now- i can't wait to get it on the track it sounds great in the workshop.
Thanks Gilly- I recon my kids will end up racing as well so she is investing in her future ;P
Now that is a sweet looking car!
You thought of running in Nsw?
Im thinking of heading down the 7age 20v track.
looking really good there jase, ill have to swing by and have a good look/chat once i get back on day shift(which i hope is really soon)so over midnight til 8am or 2pm til midnight  anyways.....
take care mate.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (ke25 racer @ Jan 5 2008, 08:06 PM) </div>Thanks mate will run in NSW for sure, just need to get the car sorted first.
My mate runs a 7age 20v and it is a real bank for buck engine, i have run all the different engine combos through my head and for me the 3sge will be the best. All the hassles with fitting have been nailed and it is now dry sumped so i will have reliability.. I hope..
this thing is exceptionally clean and trumpets on 3sge =
i envy you have my children XD haha jks
looks gr8 man keep up the awesome work shows how much lov was put in this car
