Guys i thought i would put up a few pics of where my car is up to.
My plan when i started to build this car was to do as much myself as possible or use suppliers that i utilize through my workshop.
Along with the help of some top mates.
There is great pleasure in building a car yourself and racing it with success, as opposed to walking in with an open chequebook and saying build me a race car.
Although the car when it last hit the track was fairly mild compared to now I still had better than expected success with it.
I'm sure the new mods won't be a world beater but it should be developed into a pretty quick car. A lot of good bits are in there now or on there way.
I wanted a clean rwd lightweight car to build up, i was thinking escort or gemini but were too old and rusty, then remembered my mate had this car and mentioned he wanted to sell it.
The car was bought Early in '04 for $2000 it was a very clean example with 1 20c sized piece of surface rust, it also come with a low mileage RWD 4age, button clutch, extractors ( Gilly is now the proud owner of them) and a set of IMO ugly 15's.
first up was the bolt in cage from Bond motorsport. It is a good cage but i would still like to cut it out and rework it.
then prep for paint using some cheap labour, see pic of daughter with wet and dry in action.
I had some machine work done on the engine, the head was ported similar to an Atlantic engine thanks to a good mate who had just bought a Formula Atlantic car from America.
The bottom end was pretty std really and copped a flogging, can't bet a good 4ag. carbs were twin 40mm webbers - It's at this point that i must thank EBAY for a lot of parts supplied. lol a lynx manifold and the best linkage setup iv'e seen on carbs- from Repco, Once angain these now reside on Gilly's bent? ride.
The second hand button clutch was used and a std T50- no problems with the box at all. If you continually break a T50 with a 4ag learn how to change gear properly ;p
A t series diff worked great, cant remember the ratio Brendan would know though.
Brakes were R31 Skyline front rotors and calipers with EBC Green stuff pads, Rear was jdm rotors with pintara u13 calipers and i think bendix std pads. i made up the caliper mounts out of 6mm plate steel.
Springs Rear cut HD sprinter springs 185pound and front i made my own coil overs 250pound onto corona struts.
So all in all a relative std car, at this point it owed me about $5000
It was certainly quick enough for what it was and I got 2nd or 3rd? in the '06 Qld State championship
