    as title,

will an ae95 T series rear diff fit in an ae86?

i heard about problems with axel splines. is this only a problem when trying to use the axels from these diffs in a kouki JDM T series?

I think the whole AE95 axle assembly would fit in a AE86 good. I can't see any reason why it wouldn't just bolt in. The diff flange is the same. But no one has done it because:

    1. the stud pattern is for FWD Corolla wheels.
    2. the diff ratio is 2.929:1
    3. It's drum brake not disk

After extensive searching and matching of the Toyota EPC:

    Solution:
    1. I believe a LSD to suit late model AE86 and your choice of T series crown wheel and pinion will bolt into the centre of a AE95 housing, retaining the AE95 axles. Use FWD wheels, or change stud pattern which requires welding also.

    2. I believe a LSD to suit early model AE86 and your choice of T series crown wheel and pinion will bolt into the centre of a AE95 housing, if you use S series axles.

Oh, I think I'm onto something here!!!!

hmm you maybe on to something john because if that is the case wouldn't that mean that you would be able to use the ae95 axles in a kouki diff?

If so this would be a godsent for all the people that have them and are scared of breaking the axles because they are pretty hard to find
Rust is a way of life

does that mean you can use an AE95 axle with some modification in a kouki t-series rear end?

A AE95 axle will not just bolt into a disk brake housing, because the wheel bearings are a different size. I don't think they will bolt into a older T series drum brake housing either (TE72/AE86) because the wheel bearings are different.

AE95 splines are the same as Kouki T series. I have tried and it fits perfectly.

However I'd be suprised if an entire AE95 axle fits a T series rear end. They look fairly different. Though I'd have to check more closely when I'm back in the shed.

I measured ae95 axles today. The won't fit in a RA60 t series because they are too long by around 20mm each. They are the larger 23 spline axle size, 25mm outside diameter. If the kouki requires 24.3mm outer spline diameter then the ae95 axles will not fit. I have more measurements but not with me at them moment. These are just the crucial ones I remembered.
Also, for what it's worth, an RA60 diff is 1430mm wide (approx but very, very close). I have one in my shed and I have measured twice. This may be why there must be 10mm taken off RA60/40 axles for them to be used in a T18 or jdm ae86 diff housing, both of which are 1410mm wide.
