4k/4ac/4age?
for interests sake i live in melbourne, am on my 2nd year of P's (the older cooler P's), and have a corolla wagon with a stock 4ac and poddy and lowered already.
im keen to put a new exhuast on it but not sure how im goign to go about it. the plan is to chop the muffler off and weld it in place of the resonator under the car, and run twin straight pipes to the back(under diff), with short bozo style tips poking up. maybe 30-45 degree angle and 10-20cm long. i have no idea how illegal this may be or how loud.
im a aware that i should buy a new muffler -which i may well do- and i also intend to make the zorst myself (its not goin to a shop).i dont want a stupidly loud exhaust, even if it is legal. just something a bit more free flowing and a nice note.
so any help, info etc would be much appriciated.

resonator wont make it much quieter, if quieter at all than running straight pipes.
yeh sorry left that part about the engine out. will edit first post.
im taking the resonator OUT and putting the muffler in its place...

I think it will be quite a bit louder.
On my old 4ac powered wagon, i took off the rear muffler to weld a new tip on. I drove to work with just the resonator and exhaust ending before the diff, it was hell loud. Plus it seemed to be slower with only half the exhaust.
On the other hand now i have a 4agte with only a cat and large resonator running into a straight 2.75" pipe under the diff to the back. This isnt quite as loud, but is still quite loud. I havent been pulled over yet though. Id be curious what it would sound like with a muffler in the place of the resonator..
Theyre usually very loud, heard a few 4k's with similar setups and it definately wouldn't be legal, and would attract a fair bit of attention if you drive the car daily
Get 2 inch piping front the headers back, use two baffled mufflers, one in the middle and one at the end, will have a nice note and be legal. Its what i run.
RT142 Estate.
AJPS.
i have a 2 inch press bent system with a single lukey offset muffler at the end (the one with an open chamber in the middle)
it gets annoying on long trips, but around town it isnt that loud, just sounds shit at high RPM
Would the sound change much if the muffler was put in the middle and there wasnt one at the end...as opposed to having only one at the end?
