When i am driving along the car suddenly loses rpm and u turn the key a little towards the ON position and the car comes alive again but sometimes if u let the key go it stops or keeps going for a while then dies! i have replaced the barrel and key as well but same problem! any ideas would be of so much help as it is quite annoying.

    Thanks

did you replace the rotary switch on the end of the barrell?

this failed on my old car, and would do the same as you describe, would turn off when driving along..bad

you can take the switch off the back of the barrell very easily (its actually scary how easy it is), then just shove a screwdriver in the switch and try and turn it (same as turning your key)

the switch should have definite positions, if its all loose (no clicks) then off to the wreckers for another one

Tried the Switch and its seems to be ok doesnt seem loose at all but the pin inside the ignition that goes into the rotary switch seems to be really loose?? is this suppose to be, i mean does this switch control the whole ignition and everything if so i maise well replace it and the ignition and the barrell and hope that all works!

which "pin" are you referring to?

out of the key barrel should be like a flat blade thing, that sticks into the rotary swtich (think thats how its done anyway, if not something simliar)

were you able to replicate the ignition failure using screwdriver to start the car, then wiggling it around and see if it turns off?

yeah its the pin that goes into the switch! from the key barrel seems really loose but used a screw driver and started it up did the same thing and it stopped, i would dare say that if i replace the lot it should work! that rotary switch only goes for like 30cms into a plug so its pretty easy to replace ill chase one of those up plus the ignition it self! being retarded is that the only thing that it could possibly be??

well the fact that the problem is "fixed" by turning the ignition key, id go as far as to say theres not much else it could be.

if it runs ok normally, and doesn't misfire, and when it turns off, the way to "fix" it is to fiddle with the key, and the only electrical component is the rotary switch.

then i guess it has to be?

pretty easy to replace though, should be all plugged:2thumbs:

what do you mean by "plus the ignition it self"???

Yeah ill have a look at replacing the rotary switch but apart for running it runs great and never misfires or anything so ill have it replaced and see what happens but i am guessing it will be that switch as its the only electrical component that alot of people think

    Thanks for the help!
